One Nucleus Strategic Relations with Top Us Clusters
One Nucleus members have expressed a desire for us to develop strategic partnerships with other leading clusters (specifically in the US) and to provide members with access to potential partners and investors from other global centres of excellence. With this in mind, Harriet Fear, One Nucleus CEO has signed four separate Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with the top US clusters organisations: MassBIO, MassMEDIC, BIOCOM and BayBIO.
In October 2009 we signed our first Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with MassBio to encourage and promote cooperation and deal flow between members. The MOU confirmed a commitment to facilitate transatlantic investment and partnering by encouraging collaborations between each group’s member companies. One Nucleus and MassBio now promote each other’s investment and partnering events, offering members reduced rates.
A second MOU was signed in December 2009 with the Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council (MassMEDIC), to actively encourage cooperation and collaboration between UK and US companies in the medical device sector.
Subsequently, Harriet signed a third MOU with Joe Panetta of BIOCOM (the cluster group in San Diego) at BIO 2010 and a fourth MOU was signed with Gail Maderis, President of BayBIO (the cluster group in San Francisco) at Genesis in December 2010.
We are delighted that these strong relationships have led to tangible outcomes for One Nucleus and US partner members so far. These include:
• One Nucleus being asked to host the visit to the UK of the Governor of Massachusetts in March 2011 – to create a platform for him to deliver his keynote address on life sciences, which we were proud and delighted to arrange
• Over ten One Nucleus members attending BayBIO’s annual conference in 2011 at significantly reduced rates
• A visit to Cambridge and London by BiotechNation in January 2011 where many One Nucleus members had one to one interviews with Moira Gunn
• Continued strong and collaborative support between One Nucleus and the four MOU partners including on-going discussions about profiling of each others’ organisations and members in-market
