Berwyn Clarke
Chief Scientific Officer, Lab21
Berwyn Clarke was founder and CEO of Oneida TheraDiagnostics Ltd and has been involved in the pharmaceutical industry for the past 26 years.
Dr Clarke was Head of the hepatitis C virus therapeutic area at GlaxoWellcome between 1990 and 2000 and was previously with Wellcome Biotechnology and the Wellcome Foundation. In 2000 he moved into the molecular diagnostic industry with Virco UK and, following a series of M&A activities became Vice President for Research at Visible Genetics Inc. (VGI) a pioneering company in the use of molecular diagnostics for viral and cancer disease management. In 2002 VGI was acquired by Bayer Diagnostics and he decided to launch his own company, Oneida, in May 2003 with VC investment which resulted in the formation of Lab21. Dr Clarke joined the Board of the Company in April 2005 and is currently Chief Scientific Officer with additional responsibility for Business Development.
Stuart Hendry
CEO, Spere Medical
Dr Hendry has 20 years' experience in the medical device industry having been CEO of Sphere since its founding in 2002. Prior to Sphere he held positions at the Generics Group plc, PowderJect plc, Diametrics Inc and Pfizer Hospital Products. He has been instrumental in the commercialisation of numerous medical devices mainly in the area of clinical monitoring and diagnostics.
He is on the board of One Nucleus Ltd, a member of the CBI SME Council, a member of the Healthtech and Medicines KTN Steering Board and is on the Industry Advisory Board of BNC Ltd. He holds a doctorate in biosensor technology and is author of numerous patents, scientific and medical publications in the area of clinical diagnostics and monitoring.
Tony Jones 
Director of Business Development, One Nucleus
After completing a PhD in Biochemistry (1992) from the University of Southampton UK, Tony undertook several years of post-doctoral research in the oncology field, primarily with the Imperial Cancer Research Fund (now CRUK). In 1997, he moved into Technology Transfer with the Medical Research Council and later (1998) University College London, at the Wolfson Institute for Biomedical Research. In November 2003, Tony took up the post of Director of Biotechnology & Healthcare at London First, managing the London Biotechnology Network and promotion of London’s excellence in healthcare research and delivery. In May 2010 he took London Biotechnology Network into the merger with ERBI, seeing this as the best manner in which to continue assisting member companies develop their businesses.
As Director of Business Development his role at One Nucleus encompasses the development of the membership offer to reflect the current external environment and changing needs placed upon members’ businesses. He leads on delivery of the BioWednesdays, the Life Science Leadership Series and the annual Genesis Conference.

Dr Adrian Palmer
Director of Science, Sirigen
Dr Palmer brings a blend of scientific and commercial skills to any organisation. Dr Palmer gained his Ph.D. from Durham University in the U.K. where he evaluated a promising novel approach for the diagnosis of neuroblastoma, a common paediatric tumours and one with a strong correlation of favourable outcome with early diagnosis. On the basis of his thesis he went on to 7 years of successful research funded by the British Heart Foundation. Dr Palmer was the recipient of numerous BHF grants in his time at the Institute for Cardiovascular Research in Leeds and later the department of Surgery at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Dr Palmer decided the life of the tenured academic did not hold sufficient appeal and took a technical position with Roche in the UK, where he worked with Roche Applied Science and Roche Molecular Diagnostics. During 8 years he worked in several departments, acquiring Chartered Institute of marketing qualifications and Institute membership during his term in Sales and Marketing for Roche Applied Science instrumentation. On the basis of his technical ability Dr Palmer was seconded to a global position in Penzberg, Germany before returning to the UK.
Having gained a wealth of commercial experience Dr Palmer joined Lab 21, a dynamic newly founded organisation providing diagnostic services to healthcare and pharmaceutical market segments. He initially worked in Business Development before managing the pharmaceutical business unit where he was responsible for acquiring 2 of the “Big 5” pharmaceutical companies as long term clients within his first year.

Dr Barbara Domayne-Hayman
Chief Executive Officer, Stabilitech Limited
Dr Barbara Domayne-Hayman joined Stabilitech as CEO in October 2007. Previously she was Commercial Director at Arrow Therapeutics, an antiviral drug discovery and development company, for over four years, until the company was acquired by AstraZeneca in 2007. Prior to Arrow, Barbara was Senior Business Development Manager at Celltech, and previously held senior international commercial positions at Zeneca where she worked for over ten years. She has also consulted in Life Sciences for Ernst & Young Strategy Group, and holds a Sloan Fellowship from London Business School. She has a BA and D.Phil in chemistry, from the University of Oxford.

David Philips
Partner, SR One
As Partner in SR One (GSK’s Corporate Venture Fund), David Phillips co-leads SR One in Europe’s investment activities as well as pioneering a new function to incubate and spin-out technologies from GSK. He brings a range of experience to SR One, including senior management roles in sales and marketing, commercial strategy and business development at Glaxo Wellcome, Cephalon, Medical Venture Management, The Automation Partnership and Galapagos. David has significant deal making experience in the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors and has run a number of successful businesses deriving healthy exits for investors. David is based in London.

Graham Mullis
CEO, Lab21 Limited
Graham Mullis has been the CEO of UK-based healthcare diagnostics specialist Lab21 since January 2008. He has over 25 years’ experience in the global healthcare, pharmaceuticals and medtech industries, including President and Managing Director of Singaporean-based eyecare business ClearLab International; Managing Director of Biocompatibles Eyecare; and CEO of Optivue. Lab21 is his third business venture having been involved in leading two business that have successfully exited over the years.
Mr Mullis has grown Lab21 rapidly through an aggressive “buy and build” strategy. The Company recently announced its latest acquisition, of Myconostica Ltd, which represents the company’s seventh acquisition in two years.

Hakan Goker
Principal, Aescap Ventures
Hakan Goker is a principal at Aescap Venture which invests in private medical companies in Europe including all phases of development with an emphasis on earlier stages. Prior to joining Aescap, Hakan worked at Atlas Venture for four years where he was instrumental in the formation, management and business strategy of portfolio companies Bicycle Therapeutics -UK, f-Star -Austria/UK, Nimbus Discovery -US, Lumavita -CH, Nitec now Horizon Pharma -CH/US, and Egalet -DK. In addition to the US, UK, Benelux and Switzerland, his deal flow and investment experience has been global including the geographies of Scandinavia, Asia and Asia Pacific. Hakan transitioned into life sciences venture from a postdoctoral career at the Institute of Cancer Research / Royal Marsden Hospital and the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Centre where he was working in the fields of oncology, stem cells and embryonal development. He holds a PhD in molecular biology and genetics from the University of London.

Dr. Harald Kraushaar

Dr. Harald Kraushaar is the Vice President of BioSciences and Head of Business Development & Sales at Sony DADC Austria. In his 20 years in management roles at Sony DADC he has founded a new business unit at Sony DADC for Smart Polymer Consumables for Life Sciences & IVD. He has also worked as Vice President and Head of Business Unit of Sony DADC’s Recording Media business unit and as their Environmental Officer. Harald was born in Salzburg, Austria, and studied for his PhD in Biochemistry and MSc. in Chemistry at the University of Vienna, Austria.
Professor Ian A Cree 
Director,Translational Oncology Research Centre
Ian Cree is Director of the Translational Oncology Research Centre at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, and also Director of the Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation programme for the UK National Institute of Health Research Evaluation Trials and Studies Coordinating Centre. Trained as a general pathologist with a PhD in immunology, Ian's research career has been based on investigating disease mechanisms to improve diagnosis and treatment. This has involved him designing, conducting and leading clinical trials as well as a number of large multicentre studies. Ian's current research interests are mostly cancer-related but previous studies have included infectious disease, asthma, and ophthalmology. He has published over 200 papers, and two books.
For the last 20 years, Ian has been involved in developing predictive methods to allow individualised therapy of cancer. New diagnostic technologies are now set to deliver better individual outcomes and improved cost effectiveness for the NHS across a wide range of diseases. Ian is has recently been involved in the implementation of mutation testing services, including external quality assurance schemes, and intra-operative assessment of breast cancer sentinel nodes.

Julie Barnes
CEO, Abcodia Ltd
Julie has over 20 years experience of the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology industry, including 15 years experience of early R&D with GlaxoSmithKline and 12 years in executive positions in South East - based start-ups. Her current position is CEO of Abcodia Ltd, a company focussing on molecular diagnostics.
Julie also holds positions as honorary fellow at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwick NHS Trust, Director of Somaxa Ltd, a company focussing on healthcare-based informatics and sits on the External Advisory Group for the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre in Mental Health, at Kings College, London. Julie trained in Pharmacology and Neuroscience.

Kent M. Payne, Ph.D.
Vice President & General Manager Respiratory, Analytical and Biotechnology Solutions, Catalent Pharma Solutions
Dr. Kent M. Payne is currently Vice President and General Manager within the Development and Clinical Services Business of Catalent Pharma Solutions. He started his career with Catalent in 2001 and was instrumental in developing the Pharmaceutical Development Services business. Previously he worked for the Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research, and prior to that held positions at G.D. Searle where he was also an Associate Fellow. As a business leader, Dr. Payne has been successful leading both start-up and turn-around situations and is an advocate of Operational Excellence and Lean/Six Sigma principles. He is a co-founder and partner of Asklepios Capital LLC, an angel investment company. He also serves as Non-Executive Board Chairman for PDS Biotechnology Corporation.

Laurence Tisi PhD
CEO, Lumora
Laurence Tisi PhLaurence Tisi, Co-founder of Lumora, has been leading operations since 2003 and CEO since 2007, directing the R&D pipeline and day to day running of the company. He has helped Lumora raise £4.3M via three rounds of equity funding, generated £1.3M in revenue and over £600K in grant money. Laurence is driving the 'collaborative out-licensing' business model of the company, as it expands into the clinical sector. He is a former winner of the 'Marlene Deluca Prize' for the research he performed on bioluminescence whilst at Cambridge University. He is a named inventor on several patents including Lumora's core 'BART' technology.D, CEO

Marivi V Mendizabal
Global Head of Research for Medical Diagnostics, GE Healthcare
Marivi was born in San Sebastian (Spain). She has a first degree in Pharmacy followed by an MSC and a PhD in Physiology (1990) from the University of Navarra (Spain). Marivi took a post doctoral position as an MRC fellow at King’s College London.
Marivi joined SmithKline Beecham in 1992 in the field of anti infectives discovery. In 1995 she joined Amersham as a Research Scientist, where she held project and management positions.
In 2004 Marivi was appointed Global Head of Research for Medical Diagnostics in GE Healthcare. Marivi leads a global team of scientists to progress and deliver new candidates to the Medical Diagnostics portfolio.

Dr Paul Lewis 
Senior Lecturer, College of Medicine, Swansea University
Dr Paul Lewis is a Senior Lecturer at the College of Medicine, Swansea University. He received a PhD in Genetics from Swansea University, completed post-doctoral research at the University of Wales College of Medicine before becoming a Lecturer at Cardiff University. After returning to Swansea in 2004 he now leads the Cancer Informatics Research Group within the Institute of Life Science. The primary focus of his group is development of technology, algorithms and software for the discovery of diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for the early detection of lung and head and neck cancer.

Paul Whyte 
CEO, Future Injection Technologies
Paul Whyte is Chief Executive Officer of Future Injection Technologies(FIT) Ltd. He has experience in commercial leadership roles spanning the pharmaceutical, academic and emerging technology environments, from partnering late-stage pharmaceutical products to exploiting innovative emerging products and technologies. Paul was responsible for leading the commercial development and partnering of therapeutic medicines at Evolutec plc as Director of Business
Development, and prior to this for partnering the cancer and inflammatory therapies and therapeutic discovery platform at Avidex Ltd (Medigene). He also spent several years at Cancer Research Technology (CRT) in a commercial role, and was instrumental informing a joint venture company - Cancer Therapeutics Limited - with Antisoma plc to develop a late-stage cancer therapy. He has an honours degree from Warwick University, a PhD in Immunology and an MBA.

Timothy A. J. Fitzgerald BSc (Hons)
CEO, Bridgehead
Tim Fitzgerald, joined Bridgehead in July 2001 from Aventis, after nearly 20 years in the pharmaceutical industry.
He has considerable sales, marketing, commercial and general management experience, gained in the UK, Europe and the Middle East.
Tim specialises in pricing, reimbursement and market access strategy but remains actively involved in opportunity evaluation and commercial due diligence, providing support and counsel to clients during mergers, acquisitions, initial public offerings and pre-investment decision making.
In the market access field, Tim combines a deep understanding of pricing and reimbursement systems, health technology assessment and health economics, with solid hands on experience, gained negotiating listing and access with both private and public payers.
Having originally trained as a Biologist, Tim has considerable commercial experience in a variety of therapeutic areas including cardiovascular, dermatology, diabetes, anti-infectives and oncology.
Tim speaks German and Portuguese and is a member of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) and the Institute of Directors (IOD).

Tim Wright
Commercial Director, Vectura
Tim Wright joined Vectura as Commercial Director in March 2005. Vectura develops inhaled therapies principally for the treatment of respiratory diseases and has development collaborations and licence agreements with major pharmaceutical companies, including Novartis, Sandoz, Baxter and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). In previous senior roles Tim gained a breadth of experience in business development and licensing at BTG plc and DevCo Pharmaceuticals. In his earlier career Tim held a number of management positions at GlaxoWellcome R&D, and in project management at Simbec Research Limited. Tim trained as a research scientist at London University, obtaining a PhD in neuroendocrinology in 1987. He was awarded an MBA from London Business School in 1994.

Tomas Hruda
Executive Director, CEITEC - Central European Institute of Technology
Tomáš Hruda studied economics and international relations at Charles University in Prague. He started his career as a project manager in the state Investment and Business Development Agency, CzechInvest.
Among other successful projects, he managed a significant investment project concerning the establishment of Toyota and PSA Peugeot Citroen automobile production facilities in the Czech Republic.
Later he moved to Japan, where he worked as the Director of the local branch of CzechInvest. After his return to the Czech Republic he was appointed to the position of Chief Executive of the agency and was responsible for business development, innovations and the inflow of foreign investments. Subsequently, he worked in the banking sector and since the beginning of 2009 he has held the position of CEITEC
Executive Director.
