Who we are

Health and Safety Works (HSW) is now in its 25th year has extensive experience in managing health and safety aspects of technology and science research, laboratory safety and biosafety safety in the following environments:

schools,
universities,
biotechs,
pharma
and commercial enterprises.

We undertake technical services such as H&S audits, develop bespoke H&S documentation, inspections, deliver training and provide competent support and advice to our portfolio of customers.

Our specialist areas are Laboratory and Biotech Health & Safety management, Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres.

We deliver IOSH Managing Safely, our IOSH accredited Laboratory Safety and COSHH courses. Also, we deliver various bespoke courses to client’s specifications.

Our ethos is making safety work. Our work is specific to each customers needs with the goal to keep it as simple and as pragmatic as possible.

Role

We are currently looking for a Health and Safety Consultant to join our small, flexible team. We are looking for this individual(s) to have experience in biological safety and GMO.

Our team is based in East Anglia, all consultants work from home. You will need to visit customer sites, with most work throughout the East of England, you may however need to travel further afield.

As a Consultant, you will be responsible for providing advice and guidance to multiple clients on health and safety issues. You will be responsible for conducting audits and assessments, identifying risks and hazards, delivering training and developing strategies to support customers.

Responsibilities

Provide pragmatic advice and support to clients on GMO and Biosafety, COSHH and general health and safety regulations. This can be done from home or on customer sites.
Carry out health and safety audits and inspections.
Assisting in the delivery and development of health and safety training – we currently offer IOSH Managing Safely, IOSH COSHH for Laboratories, IOSH Laboratory safety and a host of others.
Advise and instruct clients in the use of Health and Safety Management systems and other relevant technical documents.
Supporting clients through site or safety related changes.
Supporting the client through effective crisis management where required.
Submit any relevant reports or other such associated documents in accordance with client requirements.
Work with customers to identify risks and hazards and develop strategies to mitigate them.
Produce documentation such as reports, audits, risk assessments etc.
Keep up to date with relevant health and safety legislation and industry best practices.
Work with clients to develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Health and Safety. Be that as a trainer, manager, advisor, or consultant.
Biological safety management and GMO experience.
Professional qualifications, underpinning your experience so far, such as NEBOSH Certificate, Diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge of health and safety regulations and legislation. Or keen interest in developing this. The key for us is applying knowledge appropriately and pragmatically. We like to cut through the confusion!
You will need to be able to manage your diary, balancing site visits and administration time.
Excellent communication, listening and people skills, both in house and with customers.
You will need to be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience in a consultancy environment is a plus but not essential.
Health & Safety trainer qualifications would be of benefit.

Details

· Position is home based.
· Open to part-time or full-time staff (between 3-5 days work per week).
· Flexible working arrangements. As long as the work is done, you can make your working week fit around your needs & lifestyle.
· Salary is from £35k to £45K per year (pro rata if part time).
· 25 days annual leave
· Pension scheme
