Prioritisation (Too Much To Do – Not Enough Time)

This course benefits anyone (managers and more junior staff) wanting to boost their personal effectiveness and learn to cope more effectively with the pressures of a demanding workload and busy life. People often feel overwhelmed, find it hard to enjoy work and worry about how they are interacting with others. On occasions it takes a lot of convincing for the people that need the Prioritisation Workshop to take the time out to attend. Ironically, they believe they are too busy!

Duration A one-day course (can be delivered in-house and customised to in-house tools)

There is a one-hour prework exercise for delegates
Objectives Prioritisation is the key to how we manage our time. It helps us to focus our time and energy on the important tasks, and not just the tasks in hand. The course goes further than personal time management as it provides insights into the challenges of managing time while working with others – both peers, managers and direct reports. It looks at practical solutions and gives easy to use tools for managing a heavy workload, reducing interruptions and effective delegation. Time is also spent on addressing personal habits (e.g. high standards/perfect performance, procrastination, email obsession) that can hinder effective working.
Content The workshop will be a combination of videos, lectures, pair and group work as well as personal individual exercises.

• Why do we need to prioritise and what stops us?
• Recognising time wasters and time stealers
• Planning– know what to do and uncovering hidden tasks
• Evaluate and then stop, plan or delegate
• Schedule – when to do what and ensure you conserve contingency time for the unexpected
• Using calendar or apps effectively to prepare and manage your schedule
• Dealing with distractions (clutter, interruptions, emails, smartphones)
• Breaking bad habits around “being busy” (procrastination) • How to effectively delegate during prioritisation
• How individual strengths and preferences help or hinder productivity
