Senior Scientist, Quality Control (Maternity Cover, 12-month fixed-term contract)

About the Role
As a Senior Scientist (Quality Control) at Abcam you will be ensuring that our antibodies meet our high-quality standards.  The role will be dedicated to improving our quality antibody standards, including reviewing of customer complaints and analysing product validation data. Significant experience with antibody-based techniques and a capacity to interpret scientific data is essential.

This role is within the Scientific Quality control (SciQC) team and will be working closely with other members of the quality control teams across the globe. The ideal candidate will have extensive research experience in the life sciences, be self-motivated, experienced in managing multiple tasks and working to deadlines.

This role, is offered on a 12-month fixed-term contract basis to cover maternity leave.

About the Scientific Quality Control (SciQC) Team at Abcam
The SciQC team works closely with New Product Development teams, Manufacturing, Scientific support as well as our Marketing team to ensure that our products are deliver high quality publishable data. The SciQC team is recognised for their broad biological expertise and is crucial for interpreting multiple data sources to maintain our quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the testing of our antibodies to ensure specificity and improve validation data as required.
  • Interpret customer data where they have encountered issue with our reagents and decide how these could be resolved.
  • Ensure that appropriate testing conditions are used to evaluate specificity of antibodies.
  • Take responsibility for the updating of tracking systems and datasheets and ensure any changes are documented and follow standard operating procedures.
  • Manage cross-site relationships with members of the Quality Control team in our Hangzhou office in China.
  • Contribute to other projects as necessary to help drive quality standards within Abcam.

About You
Our ideal candidate will be BSc educated in Biological Sciences to 2:1 standard or above, a PhD would be advantageous, although isn't essential. You will have hands on knowledge of working with antibodies and a desire to move into a commercial environment.

The ideal candidate will have at least three years’ experience of the practical and theoretical aspects of experiments involving antibodies, e.g. Western Blot (WB), Flow Cytometry and Immunocytochemistry (ICC). You will have confidence in interpreting data across several applications and take actions to resolve a problem or to improve the product features.

Previous experience within a commercial setting and / or project management experience would be an advantage, as would experience of working with academic collaborators and cross-cultural teams.

You will be an enthusiastic team-player, with excellent communication skills, able to work independently when required. Your focus will be on solving problems as well as being consumer orientated. You must be able to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines. Additionally, you will be an effective communicator, comfortable building relationships within the team and across the business.
