We have new opportunities for Research Associate/Research scientists who will join a dynamic and fast-moving team and will be involved in the design, synthesis, modification purification, and analysis of peptides and Bicyclic peptides (Bicycles).  Working as part of the Discovery team you will be responsible for advancing early stage drug discovery projects from concept to molecule and for delivering peptides and reagents to the Discovery Biology team to help drive Structure Activity Relationship studies.  The role will involve close interaction with both the Biology and Chemistry teams to organise and schedule project activities and to review data and progress. Additional interactions will be with our US team and external collaborators in our partnership deals. You should be self-motivated well organised, diligent in record keeping, have a good working knowledge of the drug discovery process and be able to perform consistently at the highest level.

Key Responsibilities:


To become a key member of the peptide synthesis team, specialising in:

  • Design preparation, modification and purification of peptides and bicyclic Bicycles and other drug discovery related compounds
  • Analysis of peptides using a variety of analytical approaches including mass spectrometry, LC-MS and other standard analytical approaches
  • Experience of preparative HPLC and mass spectrometry
  • Entry of peptides into databases and repositories, ensuring accurate record keeping and adhering to standard operating procedures
  • A range of basic lab procedures to support wet chemistry
  • Clear and accurate record keeping.

Key Skills and Competencies:

  • Graduate with a PhD/MSc in Chemistry or related Chemical Science, or BSc with industrial/biotech experience
  • Specific experience working with peptides preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills; as a support role, effective interaction with other teams both locally and remotely is essential
  • Team player with strong communication and motivational skills
  • Excellent organisational skills and close attention to detail
  • Confident with requirements of data integrity and use of Electronic Lab Notebooks
  • Good time management skills and ability to work to tight deadlines.
