Analytical Chemist

Johnson Matthey’s Fine Chemicals Division is a global supplier of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), fine chemicals and other speciality chemical products and services to a wide range of pharmaceutical and chemical industry customers and industrial and academic research organisations.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Analytical Chemist to join our Pharma Services business in the Cambridge Science Park. The job involves primarily the development, qualification and implementation of analytical procedures in support of research, nonGMP production and stability testing. You will be expected to provide quality ideas and contribution to the assigned challenges and to offer recommendations and knowledge to your colleagues.

Key responsibilities
  • Develop efficient and selective analytical procedures (with emphasis on HPLC and GC) for assigned projects
  • Prepare qualification and validation protocols and reports for analytical procedures and instrumentations
  • Perform sample analysis and review data packages
  • Document all analyses per SOPs
  • Prepare high quality written documentation (notebooks, SOPs and analytical procedures) and ensure they are produced in compliance with globally recognised standards and with all national regulations
  • Prepare reports for customers and discuss results and recommendations with clients in meetings

Are you the ideal candidate?
You will:
  • You will have a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in a chemistry related discipline with over 5 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Alternatively you will have a Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry (or equivalent experience) with over 3 years’ related experience in the pharmaceutical industry
  • You will have a good understanding of Microsoft Office and statistical software
  • You should have the knowledge and proven experience of the techniques of analytical chemistry such as HPLC, GC, LC-MS and GC-MS
