Objectives\n	\n This one-day intensive course is all about healt h and safety in the laboratory setting. Using lots of practical examples and scenarios from differen t laboratories\, participants will learn about hea lth and safety legislation and the principles of s afe working as it applies to them. \n \n As this course is designed to be as releva nt to participants own working environments as pos sible\, a small amount of preparatory work is requ ired before attending. \n \n Learning Outcomes \n After at tending this course participants will: \n • Understand why safety is important \n • Have a basic understanding of health and safety le gislation \n • Understand and be able to a pply the principles of risk assessment \n • Understand the main requirements of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulati ons 2002 (as amended). \n • Identify how t he Dangerous Substances and Explosives Atmospheres Regulations 2002 apply to their laboratory. \n • Have an understanding of appropriate safe working practices in the laboratory \n • B e able to identify the main health and safety risk s in their laboratories and the reasons to control those risks. \n • Be able to take appropr iate action in the event of an accident or spillag e including reporting and investigating accidents< br />\n • Identify the health and safety implic ations associated with lifting and handling and wi th repetitive tasks including ergonomic risks in t he laboratory. \n • Have drawn up an Actio n Plan for taking forward learning points.< /p>\n
