Advert for a Principal Scientist: Molecular Biology Expert for the Development of RNA Therapeutics

Transine Therapeutics is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and talented, senior molecular biologist to join our expanding laboratory team at the Babraham Research Campus in Cambridge, one of the UK’s leading biotech hubs. Transine is developing a novel class of therapeutic RNAs that upregulate protein expression with an unprecedented level of control and specificity: the SINEUPs®. The SINEUP® proprietary technology massively extends the druggable proteome and represents an entirely unique mechanism of action for currently hard-to-treat disease. The individual recruited into this position will play a crucial role towards developing our therapeutic platform and treat a wide-array of diseases.
The role presents an excellent opportunity for a technically-skilled, motivated and dynamic laboratory scientist to undertake core molecular biology research to help drive Transine’s technology platform development and project execution through conducting high quality laboratory work and enabling the smooth running of the Transine laboratory.
Key Areas of Responsibility
• To recruit and supervise/develop a team to meet the growing scale of the company’s research programmes.
• To lead core molecular biology laboratory-based activities (DNA cloning, gene editing, genome analysis) as directed by the Research Director and bring new expertise into the company (e.g. digital droplet PCR).
• Apply expertise and experience to develop and implement molecular biology strategies and develop novel genetic strategies for technology optimization.
• Capitalise on experience in DNA technology and genome editing to engineer novel cell lines.
• Design viral vectors and establish virus production capabilities (lentivirus, AAV) in-house.
• Execute high quality work, demonstrating an excellent attention-to-detail and appreciation of the broad Company research goals.
• Work to clear and tight timelines and disseminate data and updates via excellent written and verbal communication in internal meetings, working in a highly collaborative environment with colleagues both within, and external to, the Transine team.

Essential Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
• A degree in the biological sciences (PhD).

• A strong background in essential molecular biology, genomics and bioinformatics. Laboratory skillsets should include but not be limited to: molecular cloning, plasmid construct and primer design, DNA/RNA purification, vectorology, in-house virus (AAV/Lenti) generation; digital PCR, site-directed mutagenesis and CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing. Experience in RACE and CAGE techniques would also be highly advantageous.

• 5 years+ significant hands-on laboratory experience working in an industrial or biotech setting, with an evidenced track record of delivering high quality data to tight timelines.

• An understanding of the drug discovery process, and an appreciation of the key requirements for working in a biotech start-up.

• Line management/supervision experience.

• Ability to assist in developing and establishing laboratory activities and SOPs.

• Ability to work independently in the laboratory, following detailed instructions where necessary but providing own intellectual input and advice as appropriate.

• An understanding of experimental design, statistical analysis and data interpretation.

• An evidenced track record of delivering high quality data to tight timelines.

• Adherence to Company codes of Practice and laboratory Health and Safety rules and regulations.

Benefits:
• Competitive remuneration including eligibility for annual bonus.
• Eligibility for share options.
• Attractive relocation packages.
• Health insurance plan for employee, partner and dependents.
• Death in service insurance.
• 28 days holiday.
• Company pension with generous company contributions.
• Located on the beautiful Babraham science park south of Cambridge with extensive amenities including gym.

Candidates must be highly collaborative self-starters, demonstrating a proven track record in delivery and creative problem solving within a dynamic and fast-moving environment.
