About the Role

This role leads the development and delivery of the School of Medicine and Dentistry’s (SMD) Commercialisation portfolio in Biopharma, as the key point of contact for commercial innovation matters. The Assistant Director Commercialisation supervises a technology transfer team with two direct reports, within a larger team of eight. The role provides strategic direction, advice and training on all aspects of intellectual property and technology commercialization to University management, researchers and students.

About You

You will have a PhD (or equivalent) in a health or biomedical subject and at least 5 years’ experience in a technology transfer role in academic or a related function in industry. You will have an in-depth knowledge of IP and experience in managing complex IP issues. Hands-on involvement in legal matters related to research and technology transfer, including negotiation and management of significant technology licence agreements are an essential requirement.

Queen Mary Innovation Ltd (QMI) is Queen Mary University of London’s wholly-owned technology transfer company and is responsible for the commercialization and management of the University’s intellectual property and portfolio of spinout companies. This role is within the Biopharma team at Queen Mary Innovation.

The post is based at the University Enterprise Zone in Whitechapel London. It is full time, permanent appointment, with an expected start date of January 2022. The starting salary will be in the range of £65,148 – £86,727 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
