Biochemist (Ref 4208) Artios Pharma

Following our recent exciting collaborations with both Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, and Novartis, and with an expanding small molecule drug discovery portfolio Artios Pharma is recruiting for a Protein Biochemistry and screening scientist (Scientist / Senior Scientist l or ll level). This is an excellent opportunity to join a world class research team in a dynamic, small Biotech company based south of Cambridge, UK. Artios is focused on identifying and developing cancer treatments by exploiting novel targets within the DNA damage response (DDR), a scientific area of high expectation following the success of PARP inhibitors in the clinic. The company is actively working on an exciting portfolio of unique DNA repair projects.

Outline of the role
You will join a growing research team within this innovative and expanding company. Your primary responsibility will be providing key reagents and in vitro assay data for Artios’ ongoing drug discovery projects. You will achieve this by applying your detailed knowledge and experience of protein production, in both insect cell and E. coli expression systems, to produce proteins for assays and crystallography for a variety of DNA repair enzymes. You will also work in multi-disciplinary collaborations with external scientists and leading academics, involving a high level of teamwork. Appointment will be made at the scientist or senior scientist level depending on experience.

Qualifications and Experience
• Proven track record of purification of recombinant proteins using techniques including: affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion, FPLC, SDS-PAGE and Western blotting
• Expertise in protein characterisation techniques such as: DSF, interpretation of tryptic digest mass spectrometry and mass photometry
• Experience of insect cell and E. coli expression systems
• PhD (or equivalent experience) in biochemistry, crystallography or another relevant life science subject
• Experience of working in an industrial or biotechnology setting is highly desirable
