The Business Development Lead will be working with Head of Cluster Development, partner institutions and stakeholders to ensure that London is at the forefront of developing and showcasing the right life sciences infrastructure for the growth of inward investment into life sciences.
What you’ll do:
You will support MedCity’s growing real estate offer. You will use your relationships and knowledge of the research environment to guide large and small companies to find the right R&D partnership opportunities, including space and specialised expertise within London and beyond. Your life sciences insights, business acumen, relationship-building skills and sharp judgement will be key to bringing together sectors (academia, property developers, companies, investors, NHS) within London to promote an innovation cluster that is globally recognised and drives inward investment for the benefit of London and the UK.

Working with the team, you will develop tools, resources and projects to surface assets within the ecosystem to help clients find the right space for growth, as well as work with investors and developers communities to ensure demand for R&D space in London meets supply.

You will work with the Head of Cluster development, partners (London and national) and the team to promote the London life sciences cluster’s strengths on an international platform and develop key relationships with international industry and cluster organisations to attract inward investment.

No two days will be the same, working within an agile and influential organisation, this is an opportunity to deliver meaningful impact to London and the UK life sciences ecosystem.

MedCity operates as a growing diverse team, comprising of a mix of permanent, contract and seconded staff. We have strong partnerships with several organisations and institutions and have some team members who work across organisations, to ensure join up and alignment of strategy and activities. London & Partners promotes London and attracts businesses, events, congresses, students and visitors to the capital. Its aim is to build London’s international reputation and to attract investment and visitor spend, creating jobs and growth for the capital.

Role Responsibilities:
• As part of the MedCity expert team, you will be creating commercial opportunities and deliver consultancy projects for clients to build capabilities and support MedCity’s mission to grow London’s attractiveness in life sciences inward investment (aligned to expertise and experience, in particular in life science infrastructure).
• You will proactively seek new opportunities and broker relationships between clients looking for R&D space and lab providers and convene stakeholders as needed to support rapidly growing life sciences ecosystem in London and SE region.
• You will work with the Head of Cluster Development in developing resources that support stakeholders to access supply and demand data for decision-making and to showcase assets for the life science cluster in London, with particular focus on R&D infrastructure and property.
• With the Head of Cluster Development, champion MedCity’s participation in national and international conferences and other events to attract inward investment and value-add strategic collaborations.
• You will maintain and develop new meaningful relationships and networks across a wide range of life sciences organisations and stakeholders, to further our connections, influence, and drive cluster development within the region and beyond.
• Ensure that MedCity’s offers in real estate and infrastructure join up with other programme offers that facilitate business growth when appropriate to ensure that MedCity’s value proposition to clients and stakeholders is clear.
• Relentlessly advocate MedCity’ s mission, vision, and goals internally and externally to partners, stakeholders and clients.

Person Specification
• A BSc or equivalent life sciences degree is essential (a degree level or post grad qualification is desirable)
• Good understanding of healthcare product development and be able to translate complex science to different clients and cultures.
• Experience of working in research environment in life sciences industry or academia
• Experience analysing and reporting on market intelligence data
• Experience in and understanding of the health and/or life science sector, along with a good understanding of London and the greater southeast of England’s ecosystem and position in the global life sciences market.
• Exceptional communications and customer-centric capabilities, with the ability to represent MedCity to a range of audiences in a variety of different settings and events.
• Entrepreneurial and commercial mindset and experience of leading projects that deliver impact.
• Demonstrable experience and confidence in managing relationships with partner organisations and stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
