Location: Angel, London (please note that at the end of October, we will be relocating our our office to Stratford, East London)

Full time, 35 hours per week

The Commercial Partnerships team (CP) is dedicated to the development and commercialisation of innovative research arising from the CRUK research portfolio . The team enables the translation of new ideas into treatments by bringing together the expertise, capabilities, and resources of CRUK and its academic network with that of the biotech and pharma industry.

As a Business Development Manager (BDM) working within the team you will work closely with academics, technology transfer offices, biotech and pharma partners to proactively promote CRUK and market its technologies to the pharma/biotech industry and investors to secure development routes for our technologies. The role represents a great opportunity for an individual to make a major impact in supporting the creation of the therapies and products of tomorrow to benefit cancer patients as well as making a business impact via the negotiation of high value transactions and contributing to our business strategy.

As a Business Development Manager you will:

Evaluate opportunities with commercial potential through analysis of technology application areas, market size, competition and market need.
Lead and support marketing and commercialisation activities as appropriate for projects in the portfolio;
Proactively and competently promote CRT and its activities and technologies to external parties through a variety of channels including visits, presentations, marketing events and participation at meetings and conferences;
Complete and/or mentor completion as appropriate of both routine and non-routine licences, collaborations and other commercial agreements;

Key Technical Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Behaviours:

Academic or work experience that would give you the required scientific knowledge to perform the key responsibilities and to rapidly grasp new scientific discoveries;
Strong interest in, and good understanding of the steps required to translate scientific innovation into commercial products is essential;
Experience of deal negotiation together with broad ranging business development and technology transfer skills is preferred;
Sound business acumen with understanding of varied contractual arrangements and ability to interpret contracts;
Strong organisational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously;
Excellent interpersonal skills, able to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate without authority with senior personnel;
Excellent negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and resolve conflict and construct innovative solutions to overcome challenges within a contractual framework;
