As Director of Clinical Research, Communications & Careers you will define the strategy and development of our early and late phase activity, increasing our focus on scientifically rich studies. As a member of the senior leadership team within Research & Innovation, you'll lead a large department which includes a range of specialisms such as Precision Medicine, Experimental Cancer Medicines, Research Careers & Training, and Research Communications & Engagement.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Research & Innovation, through your team of 5 experienced department Heads, you will be responsible for;

Leading the strategic direction of the clinical research portfolio and the precision medicine programme
Driving innovation in clinical research, clinical trial methodology and patient engagement
Leading the development of a strategy and vision to enhance the profile and engagement of the Cancer Research UK brand across the national and international scientific community
Supporting the Research & Innovation directorate’s strategic priorities by building the research talent pipeline for CRUK
Contributing to the Research & Innovation partnership agenda, leveraging resources and communications channels to engage with national clinical and research bodies
We are looking for a strategically minded clinical leader with;

A track record of shaping and delivering a complex clinical portfolio
Demonstrable insight and knowledge of the UK and/or international cancer research landscape
Experience of managing a large budget across a complex set of priorities
Operational Programme management experience
Proven track record of effectively leading and managing people
Experience of participating as part of a Senior leadership team and contributing to broader departmental aims
Advanced communication skills, ideally with experience of acting as a media spokesperson
Well-developed political awareness
