Artios Pharma is currently recruiting for a Cell Culture Assistant to join our team at Artios Pharma Ltd. This is an excellent opportunity to join a world class research team in a dynamic, expanding biotech company based south of Cambridge, UK. Artios is focused on identifying and developing cancer treatments by exploiting novel targets within the DNA damage response (DDR), a scientific area of high expectation following the success of PARP inhibitors in the clinic. The company is actively working on an exciting portfolio of unique DNA repair projects.

We currently have two programmes in early phases of clinical development. These phase 1/2a studies are evaluating the small-molecule ATR inhibitor ART0380 and the first-in-class Polθ inhibitor ART4215 in patients with advanced or metastatic solid tumours.

Outline of the role

You will join a growing research team within this innovative and expanding company. In this laboratory-based role, you will support the ongoing drug-discovery programmes by supplying, characterising, and performing quality control on cancer cell lines for cell-based research. The post holder will have significant responsibility for supporting the research team and will use their extensive experience in cell culture for duties including but not limited to maintaining cell cultures, banking cell stocks, documenting growth and passage characteristics as well as optimising cell lines for viability assays. The individual will also contribute to the running of the cell culture rooms including but not limited to record keeping, support of databases, and general house-keeping activities.

Qualifications and Experience

• BSc/MSc or equivalent experience within a relevant scientific discipline
• 3+ years of relevant experience with aseptic technique, and mammalian cell culture in adherent and/or suspension culture systems, operating under established procedures

Key Skills and Abilities

• In-depth experience of maintaining and working with various cancer cell lines
• Knowledge and experience in running viability assays
• Experience in data analysis and interpretation
• Excellent laboratory documentation/notebook organization and critical thinking skills
• Adaptable, enthusiastic, and approachable
• Strong communication skills (verbal, written, interpersonal)
• Excellent numeracy and IT skills
• An ability to work both independently and as part of a research team
• Excellent time management skills (schedules, timelines, task prioritisation) and a positive approach to changing priorities
• Excellent multi-tasking and problem-solving skills; solution-oriented and self-motivated
• Strong attention to detail with ability to work meticulously and with minimal mistakes

Key Responsibilities

• Culture, expansion, and maintenance of cell cultures of adherent and suspension culture systems across multiple projects using aseptic technique
• Optimisation of cell lines for doubling time, seeding density etc.
• Performance of viability assays for model cancer cell lines
• Maintenance of cell line databases, keeping inventory and supplying cell stocks to internal and external groups.
• Performance and management of mycoplasma testing
• Generation and maintenance of complete and accurate records in a highly organised manner

Desirable experience

• Working in a pharmaceutical/biotech laboratory setting
• CellTiter-Glo viability assays, colony formation and data analysis in Graphpad Prism etc
