Commercialisation Manager

Applications are invited for a Commercialisation Manager to join the Business Development Group at the Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), based in Norwich, UK.

Background:

The Quadram Institute is a new interdisciplinary research institute at the forefront of a new era in food and health research. Its mission is to understand how food and the gut microbiota are linked to the promotion of health and the prevention of disease. A partnership between Quadram Institute Bioscience, the University of East Anglia, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and BBSRC, it brings together scientists and clinicians in a new state-of-the-art building. The Quadram Institute is based on the Norwich Research Park, one of Europe’s largest centres of life sciences and home of the John Innes Centre and The Earlham Institute. (https://quadram.ac.uk/).

The role:

The main purpose of the Commercialisation Manager post will be to establish commercialisation strategies and support the development of an entrepreneurial culture within the Institute. The role will drive the QIB’s commercialisation agenda ensuring that intellectual property is used to the highest possible impact maximising the QIB’s income potential. This will be achieved by developing and sustaining extensive corporate research collaborations and opportunities to co-innovate with commercial organisations both across the UK and Globally. 

The ideal candidate:

This role provides an opportunity for a commercially focussed individual with highly developed interpersonal and influencing skills, to apply and develop their commercial collaboration skills in a unique national and international marketplace. Candidates should have a post graduate level qualification in a relevant scientific discipline, however applicants with significant laboratory experience in a commercially focused R&D department will also be considered. Candidates must have experience in working with researchers to find commercial routes to market for technology/IP and have successfully led the commercialisation/implementation of technology or IP. Knowledge and direct experience of the patent system, working with patent agents and recording information for management purposes are essential requirements as is extensive experience of initiating, planning and managing major projects. Candidates must also be able to travel extensively both within and outside of the UK.
