Empyrean Therapeutics Ltd: Principal Scientist / Senior Scientist – Immunology and Gene Engineering

Empyrean Therapeutics, headquartered at the Babraham research campus in Cambridge, is
using cutting edge gene-editing technologies and a novel genetic screening platform to
develop genetically modified autologous and allogeneic cell therapies for the treatment of
cancer and other diseases.

We have an opening for a principal scientist or associate scientist, focused on developing
novel and innovative immunotherapy platforms and investigating the functional role of new
genetic targets in the immune system. As part of a cross-functional team, this scientist will
investigate exciting new and improved methods for multiplex genome engineering of primary
human cells. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone wanting to apply their knowledge of
Immunology and molecular and cellular biology, building on cutting edge skills while working
in a very dynamic team in a young but rapidly growing biotech start-up.

Core skills required:

• A background in Immunology and experience in isolating, culturing and assaying
primary T cells
• Strong molecular biology skills and a good understanding of genetics and gene
• Strong cell culture experience with good aseptic technique
• Skilled in experimental design and troubleshooting
• Good organisational ability to plan and prioritise work
• Experience of gene editing is preferred
• Experience of in vivo models of the immune system is an advantage

As a senior team member, you will manager all aspects of the project, planning and
performing experiments to test new ideas and generate key data to drive the project forward.
You will be PhD educated, ideally with additional experience within a leading academic
institute or equivalent biotech.

communication skills, attention to detail and excellent record keeping. We can offer an
