Financial Accountant at Artios (Ref 4233)

Following our exciting collaborations with both Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, and Novartis, and with an expanding small molecule drug discovery portfolio, Artios Pharma is recruiting for a Financial Accountant. This is an excellent opportunity to join a world class research team in a dynamic, small Biotech company based south of Cambridge, UK. Artios is focused on identifying and developing cancer treatments by exploiting novel targets within the DNA damage response (DDR), a scientific area of high expectation following the success of PARP inhibitors in the clinic. The company is actively working on an exciting portfolio of unique DNA repair projects.

We have 2 clinical studies with our small molecules, ATR and Polθ inhibitors, in clinical development.

Outline of the role
This role will report to the Finance Controller and liaise with the wider finance team to ensure the efficient and smooth quarterly consolidation and reporting with an appropriate level of financial control. Your primary responsibilities will be to:

• Proven experience in working in a Financial Accountant role.
• Assist in the month-end and quarter-end process, ensuring accounting records are maintained.
• Maintain accounting records for the small US subsidiary.
• Prepare group consolidated accounts.
• Assist in the completion of IFRS group consolidated statutory financial statements including all disclosure notes.
• Help to prepare tax returns and liaise with tax advisors.
• Assist with other areas of compliance and reporting, including VAT returns and payroll tax returns.
• Carry out monthly/quarterly balance sheet reconciliations, resolving variances and identifying issues.
• Assist in the preparation of quarterly variance analysis of the balance sheet and P&L.
• Account for collaborations, share-based payments, compound instruments and IFRS 16 leases.
• Develop and maintain IFRS financial accounting/reporting policies.
• Assist the Financial Controller with the annual audit and quarterly review process and assist auditors with timely and accurate information.
• Recommend and implement changes and improvements that will have a positive impact on the Company’s financial controls and financial performance.
• Assist in the Netsuite and Sarbanes-Oxley implementation.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential
- Accountancy qualification, ideally ACA/ACCA/CIMA with post-qualification experience
- Up-to-date IFRS technical and tax knowledge
- Experience of preparing financial statements under IFRS and/or FRS 101

Desirable
- Life Sciences, Biotech experience preferred
- Experience of Netsuite and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance
- Experience with public companies

Key Skills and Abilities

Essential
• Sound accounting operations and reporting experience; ideally with financial bookkeeping and/or financial close experience
• High level of IT literacy, including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Flexible approach to change
• Collaborative approach to working and ability to build strong relationship with the wider finance team and other stakeholders
• Strong organisational skills and awareness of the importance of reporting deadlines
• Able to progress and grow with the business.
