We have an exciting opportunity for a group leader to join us at our Cambridge, UK based facilities.

In this new role you will apply in-depth knowledge of fibrotic diseases to lead and expand Mission’s internal in vivo capability and oversee outsourcing of complex in vivo models. You will be responsible for the delivery of pharmacology/pharmacodynamics studies to support the portfolio of fibrosis/immunomodulatory programs and early stage exploratory projects. You will apply strong principles of translational science to design and interpret internal and outsourced studies. You will be a driving influence in our ongoing efforts to build a portfolio of DUB inhibitor projects, which include fibrosis and neurodegenerative disorders.

Key responsibilities of the role will include:

• Lead and expand Mission’s existing in vivo pharmacology capabilities – with a focus on assessments of pharmacokinetics and fibrosis efficacy
• Assume responsibility for Mission’s Project License and all Home Office accountabilities
• Identify, validate and develop in vivo mechanistic and disease models of fibrosis and neurodegeneration
• Design and delivery of pharmacology/pharmacodynamics studies
• Critically analyse and interpret data, define realistic timelines for studies and meet delivery deadlines
• Delivery of pharmacology/pharmacodynamics research reports for inclusion in regulatory documentation
• Support identification and validation of novel therapeutic targets and delivery of new targets into the pipeline
Establish capability to undertake transgenic in vivo work within Mission to support mechanism of action studies
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
• PhD qualified with established relevant pharmaceutical industry experience
• Experience working in cross-functional and matrixed Research and Translational teams
• Experience in advancement of compounds through project milestones (i.e. candidate selection)
• Established scientific reputation in the field of fibrosis and/or neurodegeneration as evidenced by publication track record
• Additional expertise in disease models of neurodegeneration would be preferred
• Previous experience developing pharmacodynamic mechanistic models to support translational disease relevant strategies
• Able to establish, maintain and manage effective collaborations with external partners
• Experience in leading and managing groups in pharma/biotech environment
• Previous Personal Licence holder with some experience of Project Licence management
• Excellent communication skills at both detailed and summarized levels
• Team player with ability to conduct independent research
• Able to quickly prioritise deliverables according to team and business requirements
• Close attention to detail
