Neuroscientist

About Cerevance:
Cerevance is a neuroscience focused drug discovery company dedicated to finding innovative new medicines for debilitating CNS disorders. The company’s powerful NETSseq platform profiles cell-type specific gene expression from human brain post-mortem tissue in health and disease with the aim of identifying novel targets for drug discovery. We have a pipeline of novel discovery- and clinical-stage compounds and a proven team of drug discovery scientists that we are looking to expand the team with an experienced neurobiologist.

Cerevance is located in Cambridge, UK and Boston, MA, USA. The position will be based in Cambridge, UK laboratories.

Position: Neuroscientist
We are seeking a highly motivated neuroscientist with a PhD (or equivalent) and expertise in understanding neuronal function and dysfunction in disease. This is an exciting opportunity to understand gene changes and function in specific cell types in CNS disorders and to contribute to the selection, validation and development of novel drug targets for neurological disorders.
The role will use your expertise in neuroscience to scrutinize the data from our NETSseq platform, help select potential novel drug targets and to design experiments to validate and understand these targets as potential therapeutics for neurogenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, ALS and FTD.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in neuroscience, particularly in relation to neurodegeneration, an excellent understanding of neurocircuitry and of neuronal biochemistry as it applies to function and disease.
The candidate will have extensive hands-on experimental experience of a range of modern laboratory-based techniques. This may include live-cell imaging, cell culture, cell biology- assessments of cellular biochemistry, histological analysis, or electrophysiology. In addition, the preferred neuroscientist will be comfortable analyzing transcriptomic data and experience in cell type specific transcriptomics and interpreting bioinformatic analyses.

This role will contribute across the whole of the Cerevance drug discovery pipeline and provides the opportunity to work within a vibrant neuroscience drug discovery environment. We expect all candidates to be highly motivated, flexible, and well-organized scientists with the ability to multi-task and work within a highly multidisciplinary and dynamic environment. Good interpersonal skills and a strong team ethic are essential. The candidate will regularly discuss their data at internal meetings and will have the opportunity to represent Cerevance at external meetings. Experience of working within a pharma or biotech drug discovery environment would be an advantage
