Frequasense Limited was set up in 2020 with the intention of bringing a point of care medical device for the rapid detection of sepsis using its own proprietary technology to market over the next 2-3 years. The team has built on experimental testing, knowledge and development gathered over the last 10 years. The CEO has successfully won grants totalling over £1M over this time period as well as securing 2 rounds of investment. Individuals in the team have also collectively invested their own funds worth £150K. The company has always operated virtually and relies on input from sub-contractors for most of the engineering development. They partner with a strong clinical team based in the Liverpool City Region supporting the clinical testing and development. Having recently won a SMART award from Innovate UK and matching investment from the newly created Liverpool Ventures run by LYVA Labs. They are committed to reaching its next inflexion point within 12 -18 months enabling the next round of investment. A key output will be partnering with a commercial partner to scale up manufacturing and regulatory approval.

They are now seeking to appoint a Chair with a track record of successful exits in the diagnostic testing sector, with a particular emphasis on point of care diagnostics. Key will be providing scrutiny, leadership, oversight and strategic input to the company and to provide support to the experienced CEO and senior management team. The Chair will ensure an effective relationship between all board members and stakeholders/shareholders and act as an independent voice in the event of a dispute between the directors.

The successful candidate will have practical experience of building and scaling companies and have a good track record in leadership within a start-up environment. The role holder will have had non-executive director experience, ideally as a Chair.

The company currently has limited funds to be able to remunerate the chair role, but this can change when the next milestones are met. They require someone approximately 1 day per month.
