Operations Manager (Maternity Cover)

Applications are invited for a full-time (Maternity cover) Operations Manager to support the Executive Manager of Queen Mary BioEnterprises (QMB), which is a large commercial laboratory incubator in Whitechapel, London E1 2AX.  Specifically we are seeking an Operations Manager on a full-time, fixed-term maternity contract for 9 months. The Manager plays a pivotal role at the QMB incubator in managing team members, maintaining consistent, effective operational support of the commercial laboratories and meeting rooms. Taking the lead in ensuring a safe, high quality environment you will manage two front desk staff, and work closely with tenants at various levels. 

Your advice will inform decisions regarding team absences, energy use and optimization, laboratory and office refits, general maintenance budgets, as well as training and health and safety processes. In addition to seeing that the team are well-supplied and that all team individuals are receiving ongoing training, especially to fulfill any H&S audit requirements.

Knowledge of health and safety, and procurement contracts is essential. A relevant commercial background is desirable, as are a flexible attitude, excellent communication, and problem solving skills.  Some scientific experience would be beneficial.  You will have access to training and mentoring support to help you in this job.

Excellent organisational skills, complete reliability and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively are essential, as is attention to detail and focus on hard deadlines. Comprehensive IT skills for administration are essential. A high standard of numeracy and literacy is expected. Applicants are expected to demonstrate a proven ability to summarise information and provide advice. 

Experience of acting as a Safety Officer or Biological Safety Officer and possessing a recognised Health and Safety qualification would be advantageous.

Salary will depend on experience but will be in the range £40,000 to £43,000, pa.
