Partnerships and Business Development Manager

Applications are invited for an experienced Partnerships and Business Development Manager to join the Business Development team at Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), based in Norwich, UK.

Background:

The Quadram Institute is a new interdisciplinary research institute dedicated to understanding how food and microbes interact to promote health and prevent disease. Its mission is to deliver healthier lives through innovation in gut health, microbiology and food. A partnership between Quadram Institute Bioscience, the University of East Anglia, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and BBSRC, it brings together scientists and clinicians in a state-of-the-art building on the Norwich Research Park. This is one of Europe’s largest centres of life sciences and home of the John Innes Centre and The Earlham Institute. (https://quadram.ac.uk/).

The role:

The role of Partnerships and Business Development Manager will be to engage with external organisations to develop partnerships and opportunities for collaborative funding and commercialisation of research at QIB. The successful applicant will bring their own extensive professional networks and help develop existing ones in QIB. An objective of the role will be to reinforce existing and establish new relationships outside the Higher Education sector to increase knowledge exchange and generate impact. The role will also identify opportunities for collaborative research and increase funded research from relevant external bodies, nationally and internationally.

Another major aspect of the role will be to support the team in the commercialisation of research and maximising the intellectual property portfolio. The role will actively scout for new market opportunities and help drive innovation and research translation in the Institute. Other areas for the role include attending business conferences and networking events, facilitating visits from investors and government agencies and supporting funding applications. The role will also contribute to the development of a translational and enterprising culture within the Institute. This involves interacting closely with early career researchers and setting workshops and development programmes. The role will report to and support the Head of Business Development and join a motivated team of experienced professionals.

The ideal candidate:

The ideal candidate will be educated to Postgraduate level or equivalent within a relevant scientific field (molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, food safety science, microbiology, metagenomics, sequencing). They will have experience managing intellectual property and research commercialisation within a research environment. They will possess project management skills and experience in developing collaborations and/or consortia. They will have a demonstrable ability to co-ordinate a range of different stakeholders and complex relationships. Experience in working in or with the pharmaceutical sector will be desirable. Marketing skills will also be desirable.

Additional information:

Salary is competitive for a manager level and negotiable, depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, permanent post. Flexibility negotiable.
