We are looking for a highly-motivated, energetic, creative self-starting individual to support the development of our smartphone-enabled preventative healthcare solution. Candidates should be experienced in working in wet-lab environments and be able to perform experiments and analyse and interpret results independently. Experience working with microfluidics (e.g. 3d printing, chip optimisation, prototyping, scale-up manufacturing) would be a definite plus.
Our chosen candidate will form part of the team responsible for building a full prototype of our digital medical device PocDocTM. PocDocTM aims to empower individuals to prevent lifestyle diseases through blood risk factor measurement by giving every adult affordable access to real-time results for disease risk factors on their phones. R&D at Vital Signs Solutions integrates chemistry, microfluidic design and engineering, software development and computer science. The ideal candidate would be comfortable working across disciplines as part of our multi-disciplinary project team.

Our founding team has over 30 years of experience in point of care diagnostics, consumer technology and healthcare.
Responsibilities of the research assistant will include:
- Device development; specifically:
o On-chip separation of whole blood into blood plasma
o Development and optimisation of biomarker assays
o Microfluidics and the development of physical microchip
o Integration of biomarkers into PocDocTM
o Optimisation with software (working with our software developer)
o Prototype scaling/testing
- Lab management
o Ordering of consumables
o Maintaining inventory in lab
o Maintenance of a clean safe working environment in accordance of GLP
- Scientific contributor
o Analyzing and presenting data and results internally at R&D meetings
o Presenting results and performing demonstrations to partners, clients and investors
- PhD in one of the following areas: chemistry, materials science, engineering or physical sciences
Skills / experience
- Experience of working in a wet-lab environment
- Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary project team
- Experience in microfluidics / microfabrication development a plus
- Experience in diagnostic prototype production a plus
- Demonstrated ability at effectively communicating and presenting results upwards
- Demonstrated ability at writing scientific articles
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Plans and executes projects meeting project deadlines
- Willingness to learn new skills and methods
- Self-starter with problem solving mentality
