Leaf Expression Systems is an innovative contract development business specialising in the plant-based expression and production of proteins, metabolites and complex natural products for research and biomedical applications using a proprietary expression technology.

Broad Description:
Plant transient expression has the potential to be a leading expression platform for the production of protein-based medicines, however opportunities exist to improve the platform to compete with established expression technologies. The postholder will undertake an exciting R&D project to further enhance the productivity of plant transient expression platforms. A combination of approaches will be used to identify candidate genes that can be engineered to improve the platform. If you are a talented plant scientist that would like to make a significant contribution to the field of plant biotechnology, then this would be an ideal position for you.

Qualifications and Desirable Experience:
1. PhD in plant biology, biochemistry, biology, biotechnology, or an associated life science.
2. Enthusiastic and self-motivated.
3. Experience working with plants.
4. Experience with bioinformatic analysis and next-generation sequencing data.
5. Experience working with plant transient expression systems and/or protein expression.
6. A team player with excellent problem-solving skills, good scientific judgement, and communication skills with a methodical and open-minded approach to dealing with challenges.
Training will be provided to the postholder in areas where current experience is lacking.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
1. Work independently and with other members of the Leaf Expression Systems team to deliver projects to agreed milestones and timelines.
2. Report in a timely manner to internal and external stakeholders.
