Research Contracts Manager

An opportunity has arisen in our Legal, Ethics and Governance office for an experienced Contracts Manager to join our close-knit, busy team.

About the role:

As a Contracts Manager you will have the opportunity to engage with a wide variety of scientists, research administrators and collaborators in order support the excellent science taking place at the Wellcome Sanger Institute.

You will be responsible for reviewing and negotiating the terms and conditions of a diverse range of research contracts and agreements, identifying and mitigating risks to ensure that they do not expose the Wellcome Sanger Institute to unreasonable risk and to ensure that they comply with current legislation, and internal policies and procedures.

You will be a strong communicator, have a flexible approach, with the ability to prioritise a busy workload. You will enjoy dealing with complex scenarios and be solution focused.

Essential Skills
Qualified in a research contracts related field or continued professional development in a similar environment
Experience of working in a professional role, preferably within a Higher Education or similar research based environment such as the NHS or an R&D office
Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in a legal or business-related field
Experience of drafting and advising on contracts
A good understanding of – intellectual property and confidentiality
Experience of resolving issues around intellectual property and confidentiality
An appreciation of liabilities, warranties and indemnities and when to recognise risk and ask for advice
Ability to develop and maintain close working relationships with Faculty, Research Administration and other staff members
Good influencing and written and verbal communication skills
Attention to detail and proven ability to complete tasks
Demonstrable track record of working efficiently and effectively to challenging deadlines
Strong team player
Ideal Skills
Experience of drafting and negotiating Research Collaboration Agreements and Material Transfer Agreements
Experience of working in a scientific environment and advising/influencing scientists
Experience in biomedical research and translation of science
Qualified solicitor
Other information
Whilst the developments around COVID-19 continue to evolve, the Wellcome Genome Campus is closed for all but essential functions and facilities.

People remain at the centre of everything that we do and the majority of our staff are now working remotely to ensure continuity of operations, making use of remote communication and collaboration tools.

Interviews will be planned virtually and the successful candidate should expect to be fully supported through remote on-boarding and working from home until the Campus re-opens to all staff.
