Scientific Curator/Bioinformatician

The Universal Protein Resource (UniProt) group at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory-European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) is seeking to recruit a Scientific Database Curator/Bioinformatician to contribute to the further development of the UniProt databases. EMBL-EBI is located on the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK.
Your role
The Curator/Bioinformatician will contribute biological and bioinformatics expertise to the maintenance and annotation of the UniProt resource. This will include improving and increasing the automatic annotation of unreviewed entries, and the development and maintenance of the Proteomes section, appraising and selecting new methodologies for choosing appropriate datasets to populate this.
You have
The successful candidate must be detail-oriented and must be able to quickly and accurately interpret scientific data and literature. Applicants should possess a university degree in life sciences as a minimum while further qualifications such as a PhD are desirable. Previous experience in using biological databases is required and evidence of having used Python, R or another language to analyse and report on biological data. Experience of sequence analysis tools and protein classification is advantageous but not essential.
