Senior Director Oncology Translational Science

Mission Therapeutics is an early-stage drug development company targeting the ubiquitin pathway for the treatment of neurodegenerative disease, rare mitochondrial diseases and fibrosis. The Company has built a leading platform for the discovery and development of first-in-class, small molecule drugs that selectively target deubiquitylating enzymes (DUBs) – an emerging drug class that is attracting significant commercial interest in the area of protein homeostasis.

The Senior Director Oncology Translational Science role will be instrumental in taking target validation/mechanistic biology through into appropriate translational model systems and into defined patient populations to support early clinical PoC. The role holder will provide project leadership to key oncology asset(s) and oncology translational function expansion, leaning on utilizing their translational networks and strong interaction with Biomarkers, Bioinformatics and Clinical Development functions.

Key Responsibilities of the role will include

• Lead oncology projects from lead optimization through candidate selection and into early clinical development
• Build an oncology translational science team to design and operationalize oncology translational strategies
• Use translational oncology expertise to build upon target validation biology and progress DUB targets towards clinical evaluation in defined patient populations
• Identify and select target/mechanism appropriate in vivo models which support patient populations of interest.
• Drive oncology biomarker function and patient stratification marker development
• Develop and implement research and clinical-level assays, along with data analysis, interpretation, and report generation
• Work closely with the research team to identify novel biomarkers
• Manage/oversee CROs responsible for the generation of in vivo preclinical oncology data and exploratory/development biomarker data
• Transition research assays to LDTs and contribute to CDx development
• Contribute to clinical documents such as, INDs, IBs, regulatory submissions, laboratory manuals and clinical protocols
• Function as a scientific thought leader inside the company for cutting edge biomarker approaches

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

• PhD in cancer biology, immunology, genomics, biochemistry or molecular/cellular biology
• 10+ years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience in oncology or cancer immunotherapy (including DDR) with an emphasis on translational research and clinical biomarkers
• Established network of KOLs to support Mission oncology programs
• Proven track record of transitioning oncology biomarkers from the bench to the clinic
• Significant oncology publication record, including mechanisms and biomarkers
• Significant experience with key oncology CROs for preclinical models and patient ID biomarker development
• Experience with DDR, oncogenic driver genes/mutations, Wnt signaling pathways is preferred
• Excellent communication skills and the ability present results in a clear and concise manner
• Excellent interpersonal skills, personal integrity, professional manner and ability to gain respect and develop good working relationships with cross functional personnel at all levels
