Introduction to Drug Discovery – From Idea to Clinical Candidate

Audience Course attendees have included: Biologists, Chemists, Molecular Biologists, IT Specialists, Project Managers, General Managers, Commercial Managers, Tech. Transfer Specialists, Fund Managers and Patent Lawyers
Duration

A one day course.

Objectives

Based on real-world experience, you are immersed in the realities of the drug discovery world. The course is a ‘one-stop-shop’ outlining the major scientific tools of drug discovery, including: Drug Discovery Biology/Molecular Biology, ADMET, Medicinal Chemistry and Informatics/Virtual technologies. It shows how these contributions are phased over time and integrated to generate a drug suitable for transfer to the Preclinical-Clinical Development Group.

The focus is on small molecule drugs with comparisons made with biologics. You travel step-by-step along a typical drug discovery path, namely: Initiating Idea -> Drug Target Protein Selection -> Lead Identification -> Clinical Candidate Nomination for transfer to Development.

Essential related topics include: key drug discovery technology platforms, emerging technologies and  drug structural-functional quality attributes.  Also outlined are: patenting, financial and commercial realities, infrastructure and essential skills requirements.
