Cancer Research UK's Therapeutic Discovery Laboratories (CRUK-TDL) is the in-house CRUK drug discovery unit, with a principal focus on establishing and prosecuting biologically-themed multi-project alliances with commercial partners. Based at the Babraham Research Campus, Cambridge, and the London Bioscience Innovation Centre, TDL comprises over 80 staff from both industrial and academic backgrounds.

We are looking for someone with a background in technical software application management to join our Informatics Team, which supports multiple aspects of the drug-discovery project lifecycle. You will be responsible for managing TDL’s informatics applications and their associated infrastructure. Previous experience with informatics software is not required, however an interest in scientific data and processes would be highly beneficial.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Ownership and management of the Dotmatics, IDBS ActivityBase and Titian Mosaic informatics platforms
Working with TDL IT and CRUK Technology teams to ensure consistent delivery of application infrastructure
Managing technical relationships with application providers
Overseeing all aspects of application management including install, upgrade, licensing, backup and DR, user administration, patching and troubleshooting
Developing and maintaining appropriate operational procedures, documentation and training material
Providing operational support on informatics systems to TDL laboratory staff end-users during standard business hours, including troubleshooting and routine product maintenance

You will have:

A proven track record of supporting hosted web and client-based applications. Experience with Apache Tomcat, or other JVM application servers on the Windows platform would be highly beneficial
Demonstrable experience of taking ownership of a production problem within a business-critical system, and managing it through to a strategically acceptable long-term solution
Experience working with diverse teams to manage complex applications
A good working knowledge of relational database admin (Oracle 12c preferable but not essential)
Problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a timely manner
Commitment to high quality, accurate, and consistent delivery
