Production Scientist

Organisation: Sense Biodetection Limited.
Location: St Ives, Cambridgeshire, UK.

Company: Sense is a rapidly growing venture-capital backed company that has developed an entirely new class of diagnostic product – an instrument-free molecular test. The Company’s Veros products combine the superior performance of laboratory testing with the proven market benefits of disposable tests. Sense’s first product VerosTM COVID-19 is a simple disposable test that uses a nasal swab sample to give an ultra-rapid result without the need for any instrumentation. As a molecular test it exploits the Gold Standard chemistry of laboratory tests but is easy to use in any setting and thus will enable widespread decentralised testing for COVID-19. Sense has ambitious plans to grow from its strong foundations and become a leader in this exciting new segment of the diagnostics industry. As part of the expansion of its biomanufacturing capabilities Sense is currently seeking a Production Scientist.

The Role and Responsibilities: Sense currently has an opportunity for a skilled and motivated Production Scientist to join the rapidly expanding biomanufacturing team in Sense Cambridge as the company’s first products progress into commercial production. The role will include the following key responsibilities:
Prepare and qualify biochemical reagents for manufacture in commercial products;
Produce molecular diagnostic assay reagents to agreed work instructions;
Support the installation, validation and maintenance of laboratory manufacturing equipment;
Preparation of batch production records for commercial supply;
Ensure compliance of production operations with the company’s quality system;
Support the smooth running and management of the biomanufacturing facilities;
Support the preparation and continuous improvement of biomanufacturing activities.

There is significant scope to tailor this role to meet the skills and experience of the successful applicant to ensure a challenging and rewarding role with opportunities for development and progression as the company grows.

Applicant: Candidates are expected to have experience working in a production laboratory environment. It is advantageous but not essential for candidates to have experience in the (molecular) diagnostics field. Prior experience of lyophilisation / freeze drying of biomolecules would be an advantage. Good IT, writing and interpersonal skills are essential to ensure accurate documentation of activities and effective communication within the manufacturing team. More broadly, we are looking for a team player with the initiative, flexibility, drive and enthusiasm to achieve goals and exceed expectations in a dynamic start-up environment.

Job Type: Full-time.

Package: Competitive salary (including share options).
