POSITION: Research Scientist for Translational Biology Group

REPORTS TO: Principal Scientist, Translational Biology

JOB PURPOSE: Translational biology- carry out cellular immunology experiments and immunoassays

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Translational Biology group is responsible for carrying out studies to support preclinical and clinical development of lead compounds. The candidate will be part of a team covering all aspects of Translational biology, and specifically would be involved in the following:

• Developing cellular immunology assays to investigate target engagement and mechanism of action of compounds
• Development of flow cytometric and immunoassays for use in characterisation of patient samples
• Technology transfer of assays to external organisations for use in toxicology or clinical sample analysis

The above list is not exhaustive, and you may from time to time be asked to undertake other tasks by your line manager

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Ability to carry out these activities with direction from a senior scientist or line leader. Required to have a good theoretical understanding and practical experience in cellular immunology. Ability to communicate key findings to project teams. Required to contribute to the day to day running of the laboratory and take on responsibility for certain areas.

Education and Experience
• BSc or Masters in a Biological science discipline (or equivalent experience)
• Minimum 3 years practical experience required

Skills and Knowledge
• Cellular immunology: Theoretical and practical knowledge
• Cell culture including cell lines and primary cells
• Preparation of cell subsets from blood and their use in primary assays (e.g. proliferation, cytotoxicity assays, cytokine assays etc)
• Experience with flow cytometry for immunophenotyping and functional analysis
• Experience with developing and running Immunoassays
• Experience with confocal microscopy would be an advantage
• Biologics drug discovery experience preferred

Competencies
• Excellent laboratory skills and ability to manage their own workload effectively
• Flexible and pro-active with a willingness to tackle both new and routine tasks
• Good record keeping and maintenance of lab notebooks.
