The Role…

We are seeking a highly motivated, self-directed individual to join Oxford Nanopore as Research Scientist of Surface Science. The main aim of this role will be to support the Lead Surface Scientist in advancing our recently established novel DNA technology.

The successful candidate will have a passion and commitment to science. A deep technical multidisciplinary background including surface modification, surface analysis, biointerface science and molecular biology. Strong teamwork and communication skills, creative problem-solving and flexibility are essential. This role will be based at our site in Cambridge located within Chesterford Research Park.

The Details…

The Research Scientist will be required to modify chip surfaces, execute and to further optimise our DNA technology on surface. In addition to laboratory work, the successful candidate must be able to prepare clearly articulated experimental reports and data presentations whilst maintaining well organised records.

What We Are Looking For…

The ideal candidate will have a PhD with a couple of years of postdoc experience in an industrial or academic setting (desirable).

Experience in surface modification and analysis is critical with a broad knowledge and strong laboratory skills in surface chemistry, bioconjugation and surface engineering. The candidate should also possess knowledge and experience in a variety of surface characterisation methods in order to elucidate physical/chemical/biochemical state of surfaces. The ability to analyse, interpret and present data are a prerequisite.

They will be a creative thinker with outstanding communication skills (both written and oral) with the ability to work comfortably both independently and collaboratively within a small and multidisciplinary team environment.
