GWAS Catalog Curator

The GWAS Catalog (www.ebi.ac.uk/gwas) is a highly valued and widely used public repository of all published genome-wide association studies and has been running since 2008. It is considered the “go-to” resource for looking up findings relating human genotype to phenotype associations. The GWAS Catalog is responsible for collecting these data and making them Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR) so they can be served back to the community for analysis and discovery.

We’re looking for a scientific curator to join the GWAS Catalog team. This position will involve extraction of detailed scientific information from published scientific papers into the GWAS Catalog, processing and annotating data submissions from the scientific community, and supporting submitters. In addition, the role will involve working with the software development team to improve the resource for users.

Your role
The position is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on a project with major scientific impact in a world-leading bioinformatics institute.

The curator will work within a team of Scientific Curators and Software Developers at EMBL-EBI, located on the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK, and in collaboration with scientists at the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) in the US. The Samples, Phenotypes and Ontologies team is part of the Molecular Archives Cluster. We collaborate closely with colleagues in the Genes, Genomes and Variation cluster and other EMBL-EBI colleagues.

*Participation in analysis of Catalog data and drafting of manuscripts, publications, and presentations as interests and time allow.
*Interaction with software developers to jointly specify, design and test software relevant to the team’s work

You have
*In-depth understanding and interest in genetic variation and genomics;
*Skill in delivering a high quality product with attention to detail and within fixed deadlines;
*Strong self motivation to work both independently and as part of a closely interacting team of international scientists;
*Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work successfully within this busy team and interact with the software developers, users, collaborators, support teams and other EBI staff.

You might also have
