Metrion Biosciences (‘Metrion’) is a UK-based, ion channel focused Contract Research Organisation (CRO) providing high-quality in vitro preclinical drug discovery and safety profiling services. From our headquarters at Granta Park, Cambridge, we support a global customer base with cardiac safety profiling, ion channel drug discovery screening, medicinal chemistry screening support, and neuroscience assay services.

Role Summary

We are seeking a technician / cell culture assistant to support our growing laboratory and cell culture operations. This role is ideal for someone considering a career in science, at the start of their professional journey, or returning to work after a career break. Full training will be provided for all activities.

Key Responsibilities

General Laboratory Support:

  • Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient laboratory environment
  • Support routine lab tasks including waste disposal, lab coat coordination, and general housekeeping.
  • Assist with ordering, stock checks, and receipt of consumables.
  • Organise and maintain consumables and reagent stores.
  • Prepare general laboratory reagents including buffers, aliquots, and dilutions.
  • Help with fridge/freezer inventory management and defrosting.
  • Support coordination of shipments, deliveries, and logistics.
  • Assist with operation and basic maintenance of laboratory equipment (full training provided).

Cell Culture Support (full training provided):

  • Prepare and aliquot media, reagents, and solutions.
  • Carry out housekeeping in the cell culture facility, including incubator and biosafety cabinet cleaning.
  • Restock consumables and support facility organisation.
  • Assist with liquid nitrogen dewar filling and routine checks.
  • Learn and apply aseptic technique to support preparation of cells and reagents.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure high-quality working practices.

  • Good organisational and communication skills.

Desirable (not required – training provided):

  • Previous laboratory experience (academic or industrial).
  • Familiarity with cell culture or aseptic technique.
  • Experience with basic lab equipment or stock management systems.

Working Hours

We welcome applications from individuals seeking part-time or flexible working arrangements. While we are open to a range of working patterns — including those that help balance work with personal responsibilities — the role forms part of an essential laboratory team and therefore requires a consistent working pattern and some availability during core laboratory hours. Occasional bank holiday work will be required and will be compensated.
