Cambridge Network is delighted to host Professor Tim Minshall at the next evening networking event on 12th August. Come and hear a fascinating and engaging speaker, and network over drinks and nibbles.
Tim will talk about scaling up of manufacturing based on new science and tech, where innovations from the lab are brought into production, very applicable in the Cambridge area. It can be a complex process that requires the synchronisation of not just technology development but also a host of ‘manufacturability’ issues (developing new tools and machines, setting up new or modifying existing supply chains, finding and developing people with the right skills, finding appropriate sources of funding … and so much more.). And manufacturing is back to centre stage with the recent launch of the UK’s Modern Industrial Strategy … coupled with the impact of some complex geopolitics.
Tim is the inaugural Dr John C Taylor Professor of Innovation at the University of Cambridge, Head of the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM), Head of the IfM’s Centre for Technology Management (CTM) and a Fellow of Churchill Co. His research, teaching and engagement activities are focused on the links between manufacturing, skills, and innovation. His recent book, ‘Your Life is Manufactured’ was published earlier this year. https://www.ifm.eng.cam.ac.uk/people/thwm100/
