Role summary

We are seeking a motivated GLP Electrophysiologist to join our expanding GLP laboratory. The successful candidate will perform regulated electrophysiology studies while also supporting wider screening services in cardiac, ion channel, and neuroscience projects. This position offers the opportunity to train as a Study Director; prior training or experience in this area will be considered highly desirable.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform manual whole-cell patch-clamp experiments on the GLP platform to assess test and reference items.
  • Conduct studies in compliance with UK GLP Regulations (SI 1999/3106; SI 2004/994) and OECD Principles of Good Laboratory Practice.
  • Prepare solutions and handle test/control compounds in accordance with best practice.
  • Analyse electrophysiological data using validated methods and prepare figures/reports.
  • Collaborate closely with the GLP Study Director and project teams to ensure timely delivery of studies.
  • Maintain accurate training records, SOP records, and GLP documentation.
  • Contribute to laboratory upkeep, equipment care, and facility compliance.
  • Support wider Metrion services by performing electrophysiology experiments for cardiac safety, ion channel screening, and neuroscience projects outside the GLP facility.

Essential skills and qualifications

  • Master’s degree (or higher) in physiology, pharmacology, neuroscience, or related discipline.
  • At least 2 years’ experience of manual whole-cell patch-clamp electrophysiology.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work within SOPs and regulatory requirements.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive attitude and positive approach to help the team succeed.
  • An ability to demonstrate qualities aligned with Metrion values and expectations.

Desirable skills and experience

  • Industrial or CRO experience.
  • Familiarity with cardiac ion channel pharmacology or safety pharmacology.
  • Prior exposure to GLP environments.
  • Study Director training/experience (highly desirable).
  • Willingness to undertake Study Director training at Metrion.
