Who we are
We are currently looking for a Health and Safety Consultant to join our small team at Health & Safety Works.
Our team is based in East Anglia, and all consultants work from home. You may however need to travel further afield.
As a Consultant, you will be responsible for providing advice and guidance to multiple clients on health and safety issues – we support a diverse group of businesses but predominantly biotech and life sciences. You will be responsible for conducting audits and assessments, identifying risks and hazards and developing strategies to mitigate them.
Responsibilities
• Provide pragmatic advice and support to clients on GMO and Biosafety, COSHH and general health and safety regulations. From home or onsite;
• Carry out health and safety audits and inspections;
• Assist in the delivery and development of health and safety training – we currently offer IOSH Approved Laboratory Safety, IOSH Approved Managing Safely, and a host of others like COSHH for Laboratories;
• Advise and instruct clients in the use of Health and Safety Management systems and other relevant technical documents;
• Support clients through effective crisis management where required;
• Submit any relevant reports or other such associated documents in accordance with client demand and departmental protocols;
• Identify risks and hazards and develop strategies to mitigate them;
• Producing documentation such as reports, audits, risk assessments, etc;
• Keep up to date with relevant health and safety legislation and industry best practices;
• Work with clients to develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures.
Requirements
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Health and Safety. Be that as a trainer, manager, advisor, or consultant.
• Professional qualifications, underpinning your experience so far, such as NEBOSH Certificate, Diploma or equivalent.
• In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations and legislation. Or keen interest in developing this.
• You will need to be able to manage your diary, balancing site visits and administration time.
• Excellent communication, listening and interpersonal skills, both in house and with clients.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
• You will need to be able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience in a consultancy environment is a plus but not essential.
• Health & Safety trainer qualifications would be of benefit.

Details
• Position is home based.
• The position is open to part-time or full-time staff between 3-5 days work per week
• Salary is from £35k per year (pro rata if part time)
• 25 days annual leave
