Whilst there has been a lot of discussion in the UK about an incoming Prime Minister and ‘Manchesterism’, it has certainly been the case that the busy bees have not been confined to that city.

It has Been a Busy Summer!
As everyone returns to playing their particular role in helping push back the frontiers of biomedicine to create innovative medicines and technologies to improve patient outcomes, I am conscious one dynamic will feel very familiar. The search for investment and deals really does not seem to have slowed over the holidays, with leaders wishing to take advantage of an open IPO window, investor appetite and deals to be done. The much talked about green shoots are proving resilient in some parts of the sector and there continue to be warm words from governments around the world about supporting their respective Life Sciences sectors.

Most of us are conditioned to September being a significant time in the year for fresh starts. Whether it is the beginning of a new school year; implementing R&D and business strategies that have been refined over the summer holidays; starting a new job perhaps as careers move along; or picking up where you have left off, the coming months represent many opportunities to continue working with familiar faces whilst meeting much that is new.

In Search of Capital Efficiencies:
One Nucleus remains committed to delivering the maximum support it can whilst being mindful not to add unnecessary overhead to our network. This is evident in the bringing of the ON Annual Awards into Genesis, the market research on what events need to deliver for attendees and the series of seminars to share good practice on how to choose the right events to attend and maximise returns on that investment.

Supporting our members in targeting the right investors and partners through access to key data sources such as PitchBook and Biotechgate; leveraging our collaborations with global investment and partnering events including BIO-Europe, LSX and RESI to gain discounted access, enhanced visibility and on-site home bases enables members to maximise their attention on securing the best 1-2-1 meetings and marketing budget reach.

As for One Nucleus delivered events, the increased opportunities to pitch at events such as GenesisON Helix and BioWednesdays to secure attention, advice and connections come at heavily discounted rates to reduce barriers for emerging companies to participate.

Dates for Your Diary
One Nucleus has an exciting calendar of events coming up this Autumn that nobody involved in Life Sciences should want to miss. Approaching 30 sessions planned between now and the culmination of the year, Genesis with the One Nucleus Annual Awards in December. The events range includes networking over coffee or drinks, seminars, training courses, pitching sessions, special interest groups and working dinners before we host the Genesis Fringe and Genesis sessions in London Bio-Innovation Week.

Keep up to date with the array of opportunities to discuss, disseminate and deal in what you know, offer and need by bookmarking the One Nucleus Events web page.

And What’s Next?
As referenced above, One Nucleus continues to challenge itself and other event delivery groups on what good value looks like for attendees. Emerging from these consultations and polls, some changes are afoot as we head through this Autumn Term and into 2027. These include:

  • Coordinating when we deliver our smaller sessions in London and or Cambridge into single days, thereby easing both diary and budget constraints on travel and attendance.
  • Developing with our network what due diligence provisional attendees should do on an event before committing to attend/exhibit/sponsor.

Aligning our calendar of events with the competing demands members of our network experience with the respect to their diaries. Watch out for news about the One Nucleus Boston Bootcamp, ON Helix, BioBeat and plans ahead of JPM Week as we structure next year’s scheduling.

In Summary
Life science companies and their teams have innumerable calls on their time, attention and budgets. From paying £1000’s to register for a conference, take flights and book accommodation to the time taken out of the office and needed for effective follow-up, the direct and indirect costs can be very significant to the cash runway. One Nucleus strives to ensure we are delivering on our network’s expectations when it comes to free-to-attend or lower cost seminars locally, our larger conferences for up to 400 attendees or, through effective collaborations increased profile and discounts at the global events.

This is only possible if One Nucleus challenges itself to build and develop events that can answer the due diligence questions and prospective participant should ask. Too many event claims are perhaps made about who’s attending or deals that result directly from one conference when everyone accepts it takes multiple touch points before any deal is done. I encourage anyone to join this endeavour with us to help shape our event strategies, share the right information and attract the right delegates by providing feedback on what you seek to take away from any event you attend.
