Location: Cambridge, UK, joint AstraZeneca - CRUK Functional Genomics Centre, Milner Therapeutics Institute, Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre
Contract: Permanent, full time

Cancer Research UK and AstraZeneca have recently launched a new state of the art facility in the UK, dedicated to realising the full potential of functional genomics to accelerate the discovery of new cancer therapeutics. The Joint AZ-CRUK Functional Genomics Centre (FGC) will be a centre of excellence for CRISPR screening technology, cancer models and computational approaches to big data.

As part of this initiative, Cancer Research UK – Therapeutic Discovery Laboratories (CRUK-TDL) is now recruiting for several laboratory-based positions at Associate Scientist, Scientist, and Senior Scientist levels (grade dependent upon experience) within the CRISPR screening team. These roles offer the unique opportunity to be part of an exciting team, operating at the forefront of research and technology development, gaining experience across the breadth of CRISPR screening whilst it is being applied to clinically actionable programs. These roles require strong team players with excellent communication and organisational skills who are able to work independently and collaboratively to deliver on specific project goals and deadlines.

What will I be doing?

Depending on your grade you will be:

Responsible for the delivery of pooled CRISPR screening
To work independently to design, develop and implement experimental plans, including: Generation of Cas9 expressing cell lines, production of pooled lentivirus libraries, optimisation of screening conditions, execution of pooled CRISPR screens, preparation of samples for NGS
To implement experimental plans over agreed timelines and to ensure that the objectives of the projects are met. Senior roles will be expected to lead aspects of scientific disciplines within the team
Identify and solve problems associated with experiments
To maintain an awareness of current technological developments and apply these to improve experimental design and assay performance
Senior roles can include providing mentorship, training of staff and line management

What skills are you looking for?

You’ll be able to bring to the role:

Experienced in mammalian cell culture with excellent aseptic technique
Demonstrable experience in molecular biology and assay development/optimisation
Ability to learn quickly new techniques
Ability to work independently, contributing to experimental design and troubleshooting
Practical experience in the field of CRISPR screening for target identification is beneficial
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly build relationships and work well in a team

Experience in working with disease relevant cellular models such as organoids and/or primary immune cells would be desirable.
