Who are we?

Cancer Research UK's Therapeutic Discovery Laboratories (CRUK-TDL), is the in-house CRUK drug discovery unit with a principal focus on establishing and prosecuting biologically-themed multi-project alliances with industrial partners. Based at the Babraham Research Campus, Cambridge, and the London Bioscience Innovation Centre, TDL comprises over 80 staff from both industrial and academic backgrounds.

We bring together the best minds in basic and clinical cancer research, the diligence and drive of pharmaceutical and biotech companies, and our in-house drug discovery and Alliance management capabilities to deliver breakthrough medicines for cancer patients.

Our laboratories house the personnel and equipment to progress projects from initial hypothesis through to selection of candidate drugs for regulatory development. We couple this with a deep understanding of academic and industrial drivers, enabling us to build alliances that satisfy the curiosity of basic research and the rigour of drug discovery.

Why do we need you?

We have a vacancy for a Scientist in CRUK-TDL’s Discovery Bioscience Screening and Compound Profiling Group. This position will focus on the development of cell-based assays for use in high throughput screening of small molecule libraries and ongoing compound profiling in support of our drug discovery projects, using a range of different assay technologies. This role will be laboratory-based and would suit someone with experience of working in a drug discovery environment.

What skills are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have recently gained a PhD or have a BSc with equivalent biopharma experience and be proficient with the following:

Culture of cell lines
Analysis of compound response data
Range of Assay technologies such as:
proliferation, ELISA, immunofluorescence and gene reporters
Communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a team
