Cell Culture Assistant - Artios Pharma, Cambridge

Artios Pharma is recruiting for a Cell Culture Assistant to support the day-to-day running of the tissue culture lab. This is an excellent opportunity to join a world class research team in a dynamic, small Biotech company based south of Cambridge, UK. Artios is focused on identifying and developing cancer treatments by exploiting novel targets within the DNA damage response (DDR), a scientific area of high expectation following the success of PARP inhibitors in the clinic. The company is actively working on an exciting portfolio of unique DNA repair projects.

Outline of the role
You will join a growing research team within this innovative and expanding company. In this laboratory-based role, you will support the ongoing drug-discovery programmes by supplying, quality controlling and characterising cells for assays and other cell-based research. The post holder will have significant responsibility for supporting the research team and will use their extensive experience in cell culture for duties including, but not limited to: maintaining cell cultures, banking cell stocks, documenting growth and passage characteristics as well as preparing cells for assays. The individual will also contribute to the running of the cell culture rooms including but not limited to stock control, consumable ordering, record keeping, equipment calibration, and general house-keeping activities.

Qualifications and Experience
• BSc or equivalent experience within a relevant scientific discipline
• Extensive relevant experience with aseptic technique, and mammalian cell culture in adherent and/or suspension culture systems, operating under established procedures

• You must possess a strong attention to detail with ability to work meticulously and with minimal mistakes.

Key Responsibilities
• Culture, expand and maintain cell cultures on adherent and suspension-based culture systems across multiple projects using aseptic technique.
• Optimisation of cell lines for doubling time, seeding density etc.
• Maintain database of cell lines, keeping inventory and supplying cell banks to internal and external groups.
• Manage the testing of cell lines for mycoplasma.
• You must also be able to recognise any potential issues that could affect successful culture of cell lines and be able to actively minimise and prevent contamination
and infection.
• Generate and maintain complete and accurate laboratory documentation and critical data in electronic files in a highly organized manner.
