Consultancy Support Manager

About the Role

This role will support the academic community at QMUL to work with external organisations from business, industry, government, and voluntary sectors to provide expertise through consultancy.

The role is based in the Business and Partnerships team as part of QMUL’s Research Services Directorate. The team develops research and commercial based knowledge projects with external organisations from business, industry, government, and voluntary sectors.

The role holder will work closely with academic staff to understand their capabilities and knowledge assets to match with opportunities and support academic staff to create consultancy from their networks. They will work with the Business Development Manager for Consultancy to develop and support consultancy opportunities, ensuring that opportunities are commercially viable, provide benefit to academics and QMUL, and comply with QMUL governance for cost recovery and approvals. The role holder will also work cooperatively with the wider Business and Partnerships team.

This role is client facing (internal and external) and will be expected to be on campus or client sites three days per week.

About You

The successful candidate for this busy and diverse role will understand the importance and value from enabling expertise from the academic community to be harnessed for economic and societal benefit. You will have a strong commercial acumen to develop fee offers and budgets.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to forge strong working relationships with colleagues and clients and communicate effectively with people from differing perspectives and levels of seniority.

You will need to have excellent organisational and time management skills to be proactive in driving opportunities, working in a planned way to meet deadlines, and managing a portfolio of opportunities at different stages.
