Graduate Designer/Engineer

Organisation: Sense Biodetection Limited
Location: Saint Ives, Cambridgeshire
Job Title: Medical Device Design Engineer

Company: Sense is a rapidly growing venture-capital backed company that has developed an entirely new class of diagnostic product – an instrument-free molecular diagnostic test. The Company’s Veros products combine the superior performance of laboratory testing with the proven market benefits of disposable tests. Sense’s first product VerosTM COVID-19 is a simple disposable test that uses a nasal swab sample to give an ultra-rapid result without the need for any instrumentation. As a molecular test it exploits the Gold Standard chemistry of laboratory tests but is easy to use in any setting and will thus enable widespread decentralised testing for COVID-19. Sense has ambitious plans to grow from its strong foundations and become a leader in this exciting new segment of the diagnostics industry.

The Role: Sense is currently recruiting for a graduate designer/engineer to join it’s device design and engineering team and support the development of the company’s highly innovate products including it’s lead COVID-19 diagnostic test and it’s future product portfolio. The role will involve use of 3D CAD to design parts, prototyping and testing. Depending on the candidate the role has the scope to include a far wider range of activities across the product development process including involvement in graphic, packaging and industrial design, production equipment development, human factors, design documentation, verification and validation activities.

Medical device development and manufacture is a highly regulated industry and the successful candidate will be exposed to all aspects of the design process and applicable quality systems and regulations which are all highly transferable skills. This is a rare opportunity to play a part in developing products that will significantly impact the future of global healthcare.

Applicant: This role will ideally suit a candidate with strong academic credentials in industrial design, product design, design engineering or mechanical engineering who has a naturally broad skill set across design and engineering disciplines and a desire to learn about and be involved in all aspects of product development. The applicant should be a creative and intuitive engineer but could well have an industrial or product design qualification/background. A hands-on and practical approach is essential, if you spent your childhood pulling things apart to see how they worked this could be the role for you. The ideal candidate will be motivated by the prospect of working in a fast-paced start-up environment who is eager to learn new skills as well as implement those they already have.

Although this is a design/engineering role the company expects a generally high standard of written English and strong IT skills.

Package: Competitive salary (including share options and bonus).
