No day as the Head of Communications and Engagement at Cambridge University Health Partners is ever the same.
One day, you can be meeting and engaging with senior politicians to explain the importance of Cambridge Life Sciences, the next you are developing community engagement strategies for the Cambridge Biomedical Campus before interviewing leading clinicians and researchers to explain anything from ovarian cancer to obesity.
CUHP is one of eight Academic Health Science Centres in England whose mission is to improve healthcare by bringing together the NHS, industry and academia. CUHP is a partnership between Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Papworth NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Cambridge.
In this role, you will be driven to succeed because you will be working with some of the best minds and talents in Cambridge – all who want to a difference and improve lives. This is not a flippant or idle boast, every campaign or project you work on will bring you together with award winning researchers, extraordinary clinicians and outstanding communication colleagues.
Work will very rarely be dull – there are many challenges to get involved in, some amazing stories to tell and the chance to be incredibly imaginative.
You will need to be a diplomat, as comfortable talking to chief executives and ministers of state as you are engaging with local residents and PhD students.
You need to be encouraging, supportive and passionate about delivering communications in collaboration with others in the public and private sector.
This is not a job like any other – you will not be focused on just the media, stakeholders, branding, digital media or public affairs. You will need to excel at them all and earn the trust of a vibrant network to succeed.
