STEMCELL is looking for Systems Analysts to join our energetic, fast-moving and passionate IT-Operations team. You will be responsible for day-to-day operations and support of cloud-based apps and tools for STEMCELL’s staff & customers. This is a varied role, including directly supporting STEMCELL staff and proactive maintenance/improvements of STEMCELL’s cloud-hosted systems. This role also includes the opportunity to learn about & support STEMCELL’s business-specific tools (such as lab & analytical equipment) and joining project teams to support company-wide technology improvements.

A successful candidate for this role will possess a good understanding of software and hardware systems, has good experience with modern technology (cloud, automation), and have a passion for delivering consistent and excellent customer service. We are looking to fill a number of positions with a variety of technical specialties (Business Apps & Tools, End-user tools, System Administration, Scientific Team Support). STEMCELL’s IT Operations team is based in Vancouver, however, this role has some room for location flexibility within Canada. You will report to the Manager, IT Operations, and will work with a small motivated team based both in Vancouver and in STEMCELL’s other global regions.

Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain, operate and support STEMCELL’s enterprise-wide applications and technology tools. This includes monitoring and responding to system status notifications, and taking proactive action to improve performance & minimize outages.

Receive, troubleshoot & resolve support and service escalations from other STEMCELL technical support teams.

Identify, solve and document root or recurring problems. Take ownership for issue resolution, including escalation of critical issues to senior management and staff.

Identify and lead opportunities for process & system automation to eliminate repetitive tasks, and improve the scalability and security of our systems.

Work alongside other technology teams at STEMCELL to operate and support cloud-based apps and tools that empower them to meet their goals. Develop and build templates and tools for automatic system provisioning, configuration and change management to help our teams move faster.

Embed into corporate project teams to support the delivery of new tools or applications. Take responsibility for the operations & sustainment once complete.

Work with the IS Security team to promote and maintain information security practices and systems throughout STEMCELL to safeguard the company, employees and systems.

Contribute to the development, documentation, and maintenance of global IT standards and practices.

As required, respond to emergencies and system failures including after-hours problems. Proactively plan and perform regular scheduled maintenance to reduce unplanned downtime.

Assist with life cycle management & goal planning.

Act as an ambassador for positive technology & process change at STEMCELL. Be a part of our user community to build and encourage best practices.

Skills & Qualifications

Degree or diploma in a technology-related discipline, or a mix of industry certifications. ITIL and AWS are a strength.
3+ years of experience in the IT field, including demonstrated experience leading resolution of complex problems.

Previous experience in a systems operations or DevOps role would be an asset.

Work experience in a regulated industry like Life Sciences, Pharma or Finance would be an asset.

Demonstrated experience supporting cloud-based apps & tools. STEMCELL has strong partnerships with AWS and Google Workspaces; demonstrated experience with these platforms would be a strong advantage.

Excellent problem-solving skills to efficiently troubleshoot and resolve complex problems. Previous experience with ITSM tools like JIRA or ServiceNow is an asset.

Active interest or experience in cyber security, and a motivation to learn about new technologies.

Thrive in a high paced Enterprise environment with multiple competing priorities. This role requires flexibility and tolerance for ambiguity.

Exceptional communication & customer service skills. You will work directly with STEMCELL staff to run and support apps/tools to meet their needs.

Curiosity to seek new and better ways of doing things, generating original and imaginative ideas, products or solutions, and seeing them through to completion.

Confident, results-oriented individual; lead by example and demonstrate a ‘can do’ attitude.

Well-rounded and hands-on knowledge across a wide-breadth of technology.
