Laboratory and Facilities Manager

Domainex is a multi-award-winning, fast-growing UK-based drug discovery service Contract Research Organisation (CRO) based just south of Cambridge with a strong reputation of innovation. We are seeking to fill a newly created role of Laboratories and Facilities Manager to oversee the smooth running of our operations and support our team of approximately 80 staff. The position will report to our Chief of Staff and will include line management of laboratory technicians. The ideal candidate will have several years’ of hands-on experience of managing the operations of life science organisations.
This will be a permanent, full time position to be based on Chesterford Research Park, approximately 30 minutes to the south of Cambridge, with some requirement to attend a satellite site also in Cambridge area.

Due to expansion of our operation, Domainex is seeking a Laboratory and Facilities Manager. The successful applicant will be responsible for the smooth day-to-day running of laboratory operations and co-ordination of maintenance contractors for both building operations and laboratory equipment at our Chesterford Research Park laboratories. We are housed in a 20,000 square foot facility made up of chemistry and biology labs. There will also be the requirement to manage a satellite site in the Cambridge area.

Central to the role will be interacting with staff at all levels, up to and including CEO, to oversee the smooth and efficient performance of all laboratories through ensuring appropriately stocked laboratory supplies, coordinating the work of facilities contractors and arranging and co-ordinating external equipment maintenance contractors. The role will also include the management of laboratory technicians providing laboratory-based support to the scientific teams.

We are seeking a highly organised individual with previous experience gained from the life science sector bringing good knowledge of supporting a large team of laboratory-based scientists, underpinned by effective delivery of facility management, procurement practices, shipping internationally and working with a variety of high-tech vendors. Our successful applicant will be expected to have strong people-oriented skills and have an ability to communicate effectively with both scientists and non-scientists. An aptitude to identify and implement efficient working practices is required. Experience of overseeing facility maintenance with a set of contractors will be required as will the ability to operate within an allocated budget.

This will be a full time, on-site role, predominantly based at Chesterford Research Park.

Main Roles and Responsibilities
Day-to-day co-ordination of operations required to maintain business operations including waste collection, cleaning etc. and ensuring compliance with H&S regulations with appropriate guidance
Ensure stock levels of common reagents and consumables are appropriately stocked and levels maintained
Handling Goods-in and -out and a good knowledge of shipping procedures and import and export requirements
Co-ordinating and negotiating with suppliers for preferential pricing for capital expenditure items
Arranging for routine servicing and repair of laboratory equipment, including negotiation and collation of service contracts.
Management of building activities to comply with H&S legislation, including fire alarm, legionella and portable appliance testing
Managing a schedule for emergency and preventative building maintenance and the identification and co-ordinator of contractors to undertake such works.
