My client are a Cambridge based Biotechnology organisation who have recently received significant financial investment to further develop their cutting-edge DNA technology platform. With the aim to increase the information generated from DNA, whilst decreasing the associated costs, my client hopes their technology will help in bringing personalised treatments and advanced medicines into reach for all.
As a direct result of their funding injection my client have exciting growth plans across their technical team, including the expansion of their Assay Development function where they are looking to bring on board a Principal Scientist – Molecular Assay Development. Utilising their expertise and industry knowledge within molecular assay development for diagnostic / IVD products, the successful candidate will lead technical projects and have a key role to play in the strategic direction of the organisation.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a knowledgeable team of scientists at a key point in the organisation’s expansion plans.
Key Responsibilities of the Principal Scientist – Molecular Assay Development:
• Lead technical projects focusing on the development and validation of in vitro molecular assays.
• Contribute to scientific R&D projects through the hands-on design, execution and analysis of laboratory experiments.
• Provide leadership, technical support and direction to members of the Assay Development team.
• Support NGS library preparation and protocol development activities.
• Resolve complex technical challenges in line with Assay Development requirements.
• Accurately record and present scientific results through the completion of laboratory records, written reports and presentations.
To be considered for the Principal Scientist – Molecular Assay Development, you will need the following skills and experience;
• PhD / MSc in a relevant life science discipline such as Biochemistry, Genomics or Molecular Biology, or equivalent working experience.
• Experience developing invitro molecular assays e.g., NGS Library preparation, Protein-Protein, DNA Binding/Modification etc.
• Prior experience delivering assay development projects within an IVD / diagnostics industry environment.
• Experience leading projects and delivering against agreed timescales and outputs.
• Exposure to line management and/or leading / mentoring small teams would be beneficial.
• An agile mind-set, happy working within a fast-moving R&D environment with evolving priorities.
• Excellent communication skills and a personable nature to support relationship building within the team and with key stakeholders.
