Product Development Technician (Medical Devices)

Organisation: Sense Biodetection Limited

Location: St Ives, Cambridgeshire

Job Title: Product Development Technician

Company: Sense is a rapidly growing venture-capital backed company that has developed an entirely new class of diagnostic product – an instrument-free molecular diagnostic test. The Company’s Veros products combine the superior performance of laboratory testing with the proven market benefits of disposable tests. Sense’s first product, the Veros™ COVID-19, is a simple disposable test that uses a nasal swab sample to give an ultra-rapid result without the need for any instrumentation. As a molecular test it exploits the Gold Standard chemistry of laboratory tests but is easy to use in any setting and will thus enable widespread decentralised testing for COVID-19. Sense has ambitious plans to grow from its strong foundations and become a leader in this exciting new segment of the diagnostics industry.

The Role: Sense is currently recruiting for a Product Development Technician to join its device design and engineering team and support the development of the company’s highly innovate products including its lead COVID-19 diagnostic test and future product portfolio. The role will suit an engineering workshop technician with a strong, demonstrable understanding in medical device feasibility testing, testing of prototype assemblies, analysing and interpreting test data, and engineering report writing. The Product Development Technician will have ownership of the device testing laboratory and be responsible for ensuring that all equipment is maintained and calibrated, that development materials are ordered and available to support the device design and engineering team activities, prepare and implement procedures, work instructions and test protocols. The Product Development Technician will also support broader organisational tasks as needed and under the direction of their line manager.

Applicant: This role will ideally suit a candidate qualified in an Engineering discipline or with over 2-3 years’ experience working in a highly regulated development organisation. The applicant should be a structured, methodical individual with good problem-solving skills. They should have demonstrable competency with workshop equipment and associated Health & Safety requirements. The applicant should ideally have an understanding of ISO 13485 and be familiar in working with a quality management system. The ideal candidate will also be a naturally enthusiastic person who is keen to develop and learn from the team around them whilst also providing a strong contribution to team discussions and problem-solving activities.

Package: Competitive salary (including share options and bonus).
