Isomerase is an award-winning biotechnology SME based at Chesterford Research Park near Cambridge, UK. Founded in 2012 it discovers and develops next generation microbial natural products, biocatalytic proteins and peptides to promote sustainability and health.

We are looking for excellent candidates able to work in a multidisciplinary team generating technologies and solving problems on the chemistry/biology interface.

Research Scientist (Biocatalysis)
We are looking for a team member to join the biocatalysis team. Your duties will include developing assays to interrogate enzymatic transformations, optimisation of biocatalytic processes, identification and characterisation of reaction products and by-products and support enzyme evolution projects with the wider teams.

You should possess, or will soon be awarded, a PhD in biocatalysis, or have the equivalent experience. Practical experience of biocatalytic reaction optimisation and a sound understanding of the fundamentals of organic chemistry is essential. A practical understanding of key analytical techniques required for determining compound identity and purity, e.g. NMR and LCMS, and enzyme engineering approaches are desirable.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a high aptitude for learning and assimilating new skills and concepts. The successful candidate(s) will possess excellent numeracy and IT skills. You will be capable of communicating your ideas and reporting your data and results with other scientists and will be an enthusiastic team member.
